We're finally all done with our tile shower, which replaced a horrible, ugly, enclosed fiberglass shower that was in our master bedroom before.

Just wanted to show off the end result. I'm super happy with the way it turned out, especially since I designed it myself.

The wife is very happy, that's for sure!

Still have to put the shower head on and paint the ceiling. That area on the ceiling is where a 12" soffit was that we removed to make the new shower space bigger.

Very nice...we are doing a similar tile on the walls of the house we are building in Pa except we are doing a horizontal "cross hatch" pattern mid-way up around the shower.

Looks amazing Chris. You still thinking of leaving Oregon for Texas?

We decided if we do, it won’t be for a few more years. The houses hear are going up in value so much that in another 3 years I’ll probably have another 100k in equity in my home.

So for the meantime, we are doing a bunch of remodeling.

Post some photos when it’s done. I always like looking at nice tile jobs.

Dude, that looks killer!!

I did a custom tile shower myself at a house back in Florida, NEVER AGAIN!!!
Did you do your own base or did you use one of the premade PVC bases?

Thanks!

This uses a Schluter base and drain system. The walls are also Schluter as well.

You fail for no rain fall shower head from the ceiling. Wife had to have one, we run 3 shower heads...1 ceiling, 1 wall, one on a hose. Looks nice

We didn't go with one of those on the ceiling because I'd heard too many complaints from people I know who had installed them. They had said that they didn't like them because it felt like the water was always falling on them, and if they wanted to do something like shave their legs, it was harder to escape the water as oppose to a typical shower head.

Of course I've never tried one, I'm just going off what others told me.

Yea, I think you need a pretty good amount of space in the shower for those to work so that you can get out of the water as needed.

But the big thing is just making sure that the shower head is installed high enough. It blows my mind how often I've used a shower that was installed by someone that must have been 4 foot tall. I mean, is there some secret plumbers guild that's running an underground kiddie sweat shop to install showers for them or something?!?

Funny you mention that. Before this new shower, the shower head was installed at probably 60 inches, which made it feel like it was right in your face. This new shower has the shower head up probably 7 feet, which feels much nicer, as now it actually feels like the water is falling on you.

Very nice job, congratulations!

While I did not lay the tile, my wife and I did pick it out, and designed the shower in our master bedroom/bath done recently:

The wood grain tile gives it a feeling of being like a sauna...

Very cool! The wood does indeed give it a sauna type look.

Why did you choose to stay with shower curtains as oppose to glass though? I can't even begin to tell you how much I hate shower curtains ;)

We put in the curtain with the intent of going glass later. But to be honest, I don't really mind the curtain, and I absolutely hate cleaning glass doors and trying to keep them spot-free. Probably about as much as you hate shower curtains.

Ahhh, we used a glass that comes with a 10 year coating that makes it super easy to clean. I've been using the squeegee after every shower and so far it's been great. Of course the piece of glass we have is small, as this is a walk in shower, so therefore there isn't a door.

That's a nice lookin' shower. I love spacious showers with a place to sit. Coming inside after you've been outside sweating all day, a good shower feels amazing and being able to just sit for a while and soak up the water just makes it even better.
