Time for everyone's favorite game. Just finished replacing the fenders on my 98 Sahara and just as I was about to toss the old ones, I noticed a black box attached to the right side fender that I failed to switch over or notice before. Box has no electrical connects going to or from, and only has one port on it, which looks to be a vacuum line of sorts, and doesn't appear to have any external screws to open it (though I haven't tried removing it from the fender yet). I can't find any loose connector in the engine bay, nor do I remember ever disconnecting it. Truck starts up and runs just fine without it as well. Any idea what it is? Thanks guys!

If you're having issues with cruise control and hvac this would be the cause. The line should extend down from the inboard top side of the ECU.

Your Jeep has been under surveillance by the FBI since 1998. Sorry, couldn't resist, but I did learn something from this thread!

Good news, got the box mounted to the new fender and found the missing line tucked in with some wires. Thanks again for helping to solve this one. Just about done “restoring” this old rust bucket, so hopefully some pictures soon and maybe less questions.
