Hi All,

Just checked an item of my bucket list today and bought a 97 TJ with the 4.0 I6. It's got a 2.5 RC lift on it. No where near perfect, but I got a good deal on it. The hood latches are a little worn (and aren't lining up, which is a little concerning).

First order of business is new tires.. I have an opportunity to get a set of JK rims (17 x 7.5) for real cheap. I've been doing a lot of reading but still trying to figure out if it'll work. I know I need the lug pattern adapter — but it's confusing as to what size I can put on without impacting the performance - this is going to be mostly a road jeep with minimal off-roading (at least for now). Currently it's got 30s on a 15x8 wheel, and is geared (as far as I can tell) stock at 3.55. Should I bother?

Looking forward to being a part of this forum, and enjoying my new to me Jeep!!

Welcome to the forum!

If you don't plan on any serious off-roading, you'd be stupid to go above a 31" tire. Running any larger than that will require a lot of time and money to do it right. All you really need to run a 31" tire with ease is a 2" lift, which can be done for reasonably cheap.

Looks like a great canvas to start from.

Thanks Chris. Understood on the 31". Does it make a difference if I run the 31" on the 15" rims or the 17" rims?
