Hey guys, looking to buy a soft top once the spring time rolls around. I have a factory hardtop with hard doors now so I’ll need everything for a soft top. Right now, I’m leaning towards a framed top. The Bestop Supertop has my eye at the moment because it can come with full soft doors as well. Any other recommendations will be appreciated!
Also, if anyone can tell me the difference between a Bestop Supertop and the Supertop NX, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Supertop NX will come with all the hardware you currently don't have since you have a hard top, but is necessary to install a soft top. Don't bother with looking at any other brand, Bestop is the one to go with. ;)

Oh, and don't get the Supertop (not sure why they still sell that). The hardware is completely different and a PITA to work with.

It says the Supertop also comes with all the hardware that I’ll need, but you’re saying that the NX is basically just the more improved version of the original?

The Supertop (not NX) also does come with hardware, but it is really different from the OEM style, and is a pain to work with. The header is different also, and not nearly as user friendly as the stock style. The Supertop NX comes with all the hardware needed, but is just like the original hardware the TJ came with from the factory. If memory serves, it also has the flip-back sunrider feature also included.

Thanks a bunch! I couldn’t find a definitive answer of what was different between them besides $150. So for the extra $150, the NX definitely seems worth it if it’s much easier to work with. So now that I’ll most likely be getting the NX, is there any reason why I’d want a frameless top over a framed top?

Bestop has excellent followup for any problem you may come across too.

I lost a pin for the sun rider feature on mine while driving a few months after purchase and was promptly shipped a free replacement kit at no cost to me.

customer service is excellent for bestop. cant comment on other brands though as i have no experience with them.

Personal preference. Some like the frameless, I never did like the look. Plus, the frameless is harder to get to a completely topless state. The framed NX is designed to fold back all the way, the frameless, while doable, is not nearly as easy.

If I had to choose again I’ll go with the framed Nx over my frameless Trektop. I like the fastback look on trek top but the windows are a PITA. Much easier to go topless with a frame and easier to put back all the windows

Try to find an OE Mopar top. Bestop is the OE supplier, and the Supertop and NX are quality aftermarket tops, but they are not the same quality as the OE soft top.

If you keep an eye on eBay, Craigslist and FB marketplace, I guarantee that by spring you'll find a reasonably priced complete Mopar top that has never been used.

The NX part of its name is what gives you literally all of the hardware you need.

Bestop has been the sole provider of factory soft tops for over 30 years... If you purchase anything less... You're going to know it.

I have recently gotten a Supertop NX too and it is flawless. Highly recommend.
Now what color are you going with?

I replaced my original top with a Bestop and it was nearly identical. The only difference was my original had a Velcro tab that connects the rear window to the rear bar to keep the bar centered. The Bestop replacement does not have this so it slides left to right freely. I doubt many would even recognize this difference and it might have been specific to my model year. Regardless, I called to complain since I was sold on it being identical to the original top and they indicated this was the only difference they added by agreement with Jeep vs what they can sell on their own. Otherwise, the tops were identical and they were right. This was at least 10 years ago and things may have changed but when people say Bestop is the oe supplier, they mean it.

My Jeep is chili pepper red with a tan hard top so I was going to stick with a tan soft top with tinted windows. It would be cool if the soft uppers were also tinted but I’ll get over that they’re not.
P. S. She’s had a few changes since this picture but I don’t have any nice pictures of it since I took this one

I replaced my OEM soft top with what turned out to be the OEM version of the Supertop NX (apparently they either came standard or were an option on the Rubicons when new).

I bought the top primarily due to the tinted windows my other top didn't have and didn't really care about the sun rider feature at that time. Having had it for a while now, I can say it's an awesome top and I'll second what others have said; you can't beat Bestop quality.

Not only is the sun rider feature nice, but the top has semi-rigid plastic panels that insert into the rear 'pillar' corners of the top that provide additional structure/rigidity over the standard top. This makes the top fit even more snugly than my prior OEM top and keeps it quieter on the road. Overall, a great top that I'd buy again in a heartbeat.
