So as I’m going through pretty much every aspect of my Jeep during the engine rebuild, I decided to pull the carpets and have a look (first time I’ve pulled them out in 17 years). I was worried as to what I might find, but so far, I’m encouraged. The drivers footwell had hardly any rust. The passengers on the other hand, had some. Been hitting it with a wire brush, and it all seems to be surface rust, with no integrity loss. My plan is to take the rusted areas to bare metal as best I can, then paint them.
My question for all of you is this:
should I paint just the bare metal with por-15 or the whole inner tub with por-15? Suggestions instead of por-15? Once done, should I put some type of bed liner on it, then put the carpet back, or skip the bed liner and put the carpet back over the paint?
The carpet is in good shape and going back in regardless, as this is my daily. Also, I’m spending way to much on everything else, so the cheaper I can do this the right way, the better.
Photos are drivers well, passengers well, then the passenger side after about 10 minutes with a wire wheel.
