Hey guys, I found a old Tj with 40.000 km stock everything. The former owner said it was sitting for 15 years in his garage. What should I replace on the jeep. Fluids or brakes, brake lines. And one thing more there is slightly surface rust on the jeeps frame. Do you have any tips and tricks for removing and protecting the paint.
Best greetings from Austria

Post pictures of the frame and any rusty areas. Often a good rust converter brushed on is a good start. POR-15 after that? Fluid film?
Flush the cooling system completely using a chemical flush. And yes, change all the fluids. Run it and looks for leaks. Rear main seal would be suspect after sitting. Pinion seals and tranny seals could weep as well. Fan belt and all hoses should be considered no good and replaced.

I would also suggest replacing the tires as soon as possible. 15+ years old tires ARE NOT safe to drive on.
You should also inspect the braking assemblies before driving the Jeep. While some members might say that stopping the Jeep is over rated; you may come in contact with an immovable object.

That idea with the tires is good. I found also I the garage never driven 31 inch bfgoodrich tires but they are probably 15 years old

Belts, hoses, fluids also need to be changed, a set of rancho rs5000x shocks and you will be fairly good to go.

X2. All fluids (steering, oil, tcase, transmission, brakes, gas, coolant), tires, hoses.

In addition to everything above, I would also replace the radiator and thermostat with new OEM parts if available. Yes, they have very low mileage (kmage?) on them but they are still 24 years old and can leave you stranded WHEN they fail. The radiator will eventually fail....

Don't just change the fluids, flush them out. Esp. brake and coolant. Trans too if auto. Belts, tires, I'm guessing battery. Get the old girl running and ease her back to life. There could be a bit of corrosion inside some gearboxes. Let the engine warm up before slowly driving. Good chance the exhaust is plugged with mice. Steer and suspension bushings may be half eaten along with electrical. Inspect inside all the important nooks and crannies for mice or snakes. Good luck.
