What did you do to your TJ today?

over the winter I finally pulled my wheels & painted them, they were beat to death from a few years of grinding on rocks. It was nice driving around looking good for a few months, until yesterday , finally made it to the mountains after a long winter & a shut down in the spring. In one day I managed to grind off a good bit of paint, one wheel in particular.

I was trying to do a hill climb and there was an annoying pair of rocks I kept getting hung up on, it's one of those climbs which you cannot finesse, it's all about momentum. Anyway look at the perfect ring of aluminum.

By the way these shots are from after two rounds in the self-clean carwash

this morning I wanted my clean looking TJ back so I got in there with some soap & water & gave everything a proper scrubbing

got to use my new US Jack stands. These things are so much nicer than anything I've ever owned I think I'm going to order a second set.

all done, took it down the highway to air dry everything. All clean again, except the inside, there's about 9lbs of mud from the dash board to the floors & everywhere in between, but I'm beat so that's just going to stay

Thanks man. Always clutch.

I was running a search and found a few with the suction cup, which I will replace with a magnet and some epoxy.

I then fell into the big rabbit hole of LED off-road lights as I was working on Rugged Ridge units, which new to me and work perfectly. The pods are on the A pillar and after I got them aimed and sitting right they are bright!!!!!

I replaced the PIAA units that were there from the Previous owner. Lights worked once I fixed the cabling, but they are big and I like the less intrusive view the 3" pods provide, but those 6" lights were bright!!!

Just ordered a loop for the bumper to get the rest of the floods mounted correctly and still leave space in case I get a winch before the fall. Sure will be a bright front end when I'm done. Have stock looking switches for the panel in the cabin and all the wiring to make my loom. Will have a set for running as daytime driving lights and another one as brighter lower fogs for when the weather gets funky around here. Maybe get the LED headlights sooner. Who knows. COVID lockdowns are still in effect here but some parks have opened up where I can take the little one fishing at least.

Will run amber plastic covers on the A pillar units, and yellow LaminX on the bumper units. Westchester county NY folks can be a little touchy with big wheeled Jeeps and too many lights up front. This way, if I need white spotters I can slip off the covers and use them as such.

That underhood light comes w/ magnet on it. You can just pop off the suction cup.
If you are going to leave those A pillar lights amber, a cheaper alternative is to buy amber film tint, you can add layers to get the amount of amber you want. I think I paid like 5 bucks on Ebay w/ more than enough to do two sets (4) of lights.

OK, the rule of thumb is, if it isn't the power wires, the radio wiring would be really unlikely to cause a power failure/interruption/reset without smoking something in the radio. No output of the radio is going to be able to supply anywhere near that kind of current.
So I'm just trying to connect dots here but it sure sounds like you've had more than your share of radio fatalities. Please tell us what setup you have for radio/head unit, amps(s), speakers so we can get a mental picture upon which to base further guesses...uhm...scientific hypothesis.

Ok, I will get that info as soon as I get a chance. I will post it in the thread that I had started a little while back, so I don't take to much of this thread up. :D

About the Underhood light. Perfect!!
I have a roll of Laminix I bought from amazon a few years ago for my S4 when I was messing with custom headlight lenses and covers. True yellow. The A pillar amber covers sound like a good choice but still have to test them. I keep reading of issues with reflecting light back into the cabin. We shall see. Since the cubes are the 3” ones I can definitely layer them up With Rugged Ridge and Rigid, the plastic lens can be swapped out as well which is not a bad idea once I’m settled on a color.
I’m not crazy about lights that are above the 5,500k spectrum. Just make my eyes tire.

Following the Harbor Freight recall I embarked on a mission to find replacements that were made in the US, not an easy task, I found US Jack Company

the whole story is posted here:

Someone later pointed out that Snap-On also makes a jack stand which I did not find in my travels before buying the US Jacks & altough I'm sure the Snap-On stand is really well made it's still a typical one tooth ratchet type like all the others. What I like about the US Jack is it's two-tooth design and built in handle. I put a bunch of pictures on that thread above.

Are those HF jacks in the front?
There is a recall on some.

Thanks, they are not Harbor Freight; I can't remember where I got them but they're old as dirt 3-ton stands. I like having a 3 and 6 ton sets, I may replace them with a new US Jack 3 ton set, not because they're defective but after seeing these new ones they do inspire far more confidence.

Remember those pics from my post last week featuring a rusted frame?
Thanks members here answering some questions....Phase 1 (cut and dry fit) is complete.
Considering brake line needed to come out, I figured it was time to swap all the lines. Went with the pre-bents from quadratech (had to massage some but over all pretty close).

I was wondering how you were making out with that Massachusetts cancer.

Since I had Teej all ripped apart inside and totally disabled until the Raptor bed liner finishes curing, I figured now would be a good time to look into that little rust issue I had on the lower passenger side of the windshield frame.
Yanked the A-pillar light bar and flopped the windshield down...ugh!:poop:
IMG_20200531_150925.jpg

So, off comes the windshield.

A little scraping shows the extent of the damage. Looks like I'll be cutting that section out and welding in a new piece. There's my after-work project for the next few days.😣

Was a bit of a trick to get the beastie covered up satisfactorily with the windshield out but I did get 'er wrapped up...just in time too, 'cause it's been raining for the last half hour or so. ☔

That's funny...you must live in the Hill Country.
When I had a house on the Guadalupe, my neighbor always left his sliding glass doors open. One afternoon he came out of the shower and there was a deer standing behind his wrap around bar in his family room! Funny thing was the deer didn't give a shit and kept sniffing around.
