Progress is progress. Looking better

Did you add those tabs for the mesh or they came from DuraFlex like that? Mine came with wires bent to hold it in place. Super JANKY! Mine was bought June 2018.

Mesh and how it attaches to the hood looks just a tad bit less janky....

Saw the Genright post on Instagram and Dave from AEV posted a comment sounding real salty about them making a knock off of his hood.

Don’t get me wrong, I hate it when people take someone else’s ideas, but if said company stops making something and there is clearly a demand why shouldn’t someone else come in and make what the people want. Dave was blaming the duraflex hood for being the reason they couldn’t do production runs large enough and sell them in a timely manner for stopping the AEV hood.

I’d be pissed off too. Fiberglass is shit compared to what they used to make. Oh well

I don't know that I buy all that. I was not even aware of the DF hood until way after the AEV hood was gone.

Consumers don't give a shit.

On a serious note, It’s more about quality control and oversight than country of origin. Although China does have quite the name when it comes to shitty quality.
I don’t give a shit where something is made as long as it has a quality level high enough for my needs. I used to have things made in China and Taiwan and the people over there were very proud of their work, sometimes more so than the lazy folks in the US. It really is up to the company selling the goods made anywhere to inspect and ensure it lives up to the necessary standards. For example, Smittybuilt could have much better parts if they would tighten up their QC and reject more parts. The people in China I worked with also made parts for them.

They don’t appear to be shy about source for the design, not that it was unknown. Also commented that first run already sold out. No idea how many that is but would appear is demand at this price point.

From the Facebook comments:

"1149 Fiberglass and 1599 carbon, 185 shipping anywhere in the US"

"We have 3 of each in stock, 5 more coming in next week."

Point taken.

It’s often easier said than done. A Chinese made TPS sensor looks identical to a genuine Mopar TPS. A Chinese made unit bearing looks identical to Genuine Timken USA made unit bearing. Both chinese parts come sub par quality right out of the box.

Sometimes it’s easier to go by country of origin.

not to go completely off the rails, but a lot of the reputation for crummy quality comes from a bit of the chinese culture...We do quite a bit of business there too, and they have a very "catch me if you can" mentality. In other words, if they can save a buck and you don't notice it, they are being good businessmen. A lot of times, that comes in shortcuts to process, accepting questionable product, material substitutions, etc. You need to be ever diligent.
