That's weird. You're running the 4.0L right? All the heat should be on the driver's side. Exhaust runs down the pass side, but that is lower than where you're talking. I can't imagine anything electrical generating that much heat, without any other symptoms. Do you have the Catalytic under the belly still? Might that be heating something up that is transferring?
stock engine, only mod is CAI from the cowl really. HL fenders, but not seeing that causing this either.
ya 2 mini cats on the DS and twin pipes i figure that side would be the hot side if any. main cat is still inline underneath, little tighter to the floor with the skid, but no issue i know of there. running around all that heat would/should get swept back.

i went and wrapped a piece of heat sleeve over the tower between it and the alt. and let it run in the drive for 20m.
the inner fender just forward of the strut is cookin. the alt is real hot to the touch and it's all transferring heat to that inner fender, tower and strut. the struts heating and it's not moved. so i'm really doubting it's a blockage in the strut causing this.
kinda seems to me the driver side of the engine compartment is really blocked off by the position of the PS pump and A/C pump the rad overflow bottle and plenty of gizmo's on the fender itself..........this is kinda forcing all the hot air that needs to escape to route down the passenger side to get away from the radiator. maybe the high lines do lessen some of that hot air travel space too i guess

so my next course of action will be to add a few holes to the inner to allow heat to vent. maybe start with 3-4 1" holes down the sides of that tower. but may end up constructing a heat dam if needed. might even for the full hood vent.

edit: holes drilled, we'll see if it has any effect

Looks good. If only you had a dimple die!
Pretty easy to do on the press at work if he wanted 🤣😉 Would look even better and increase strength.
those inners are part of my fender now. way to much trouble to try and pull them out just to dress it up. it's pretty rigid never had any issues with it flapping or anything.

alright, finally i think i got some good news to report.

the holes in the inner fender seem to have worked to some degree. just took a 20 mile drive and the temps are no where close to what they were getting to.
still kinda want the hood louvers though.

with the hood open and engine running you can really feel how much of an air dam the engine block is. as i mentioned somewhere the driver side is kinda blocked off with the steering pump, A/C pump and overflow bottle effectively routing all the hot air pulled across the radiator to be forced upward or to the more open passenger side of the engine bay. my tower being the only thing with any venting was allowing all this pent up heat to vent around the strut causing it to heat up a lot.
most of the fan forced air plows into the block and is diverted up the rest hits into the very front end of the inner fender (where i have the most holes). the rear holes (behind the strut) are actually not venting much because of this forced direction. so i think i have fixed the side heat trap issue, if i address the upward with a louver i think it'll be good to go.

i broke down and ordered a hood louver (from amazon).
i went with a knockoff, if it's thin cheesy material i'll send it back, but the GR comes in at 160$+20$ shipping for the black............. this was 103$ w/free shipping.
i need a functioning louver not a logo, so we'll see if this'll work.

also the GR vents all face the cowl this does have a few that face forward and will cause a forced fresh air inlet.
if it's total crap it'll go back. but if it's ok it'll save me 80$. we'll see.

today's order was....... jam nuts for the JJ's, 8pc of 9/16x4" gr8 bolts and a crows foot for my front upper link nuts.

the front driveshaft is still not really happy, it's hum/vibin over 35mph.

i know the TJ is 6* castor and 6* to the pinion and we turn it back some to try and keep the pinion happy without wrecking the castor, and this is from a LP Dana 30.
i kinda had hopes of the HP Dana 44 making up for some of that drive shaft slope. but i'm gonna have to turn it back to pinion a little more.
the front shaft is a stock POS too, it could have minor balance or joint issues even though it was all tight when i hand turned and checked everything b4 putting it back in.......will be replaced with a Woody in the not to distant future.

the knock-off hood louver arrived today.
black powder coat, a heavy paper pattern w/instructions and stainless hardware. and the washer hole is already present too.
the same .080 thickness GR states their louver is.

i'll give it a go, it's got nice wide vents. it should release plenty of hot air for me, and 72$ less. we'll see if that powder coat lasts.

I've read where some have drilled holes with a hole saw strategically due to water coming down onto and around engine area causing problems. The reason I mention it is because you said some louvers faced forward.

yah it's the 6 in the top end in the pic, the rest face rearward. by the time i'm done it's not gonna be fit to pass inspection for a DD, but maybe when the weather is clear i'll sneak it out for some miles around town or the local park sys. the rest of the time she's tarped over.

lemme edit this to add, it'll be out, every wkend the local OR park is open and hopefully on some far away adventures across the map. just rolling on a trailer so i don't have to worry about breakin it.

i'm totally convinced the weatherman couldn't tell you what going on outside if they were looking out the window.
the rain that was not supposed to arrive until Sun on Thurs. that changed to Sat. eve into Sun. on Fri. Sat morn that had all changed to early Sat. afternoon. i got started b4 7 and by the time i had the layout holes in it stared pouring by 8am.

anyways i cleared a spot in the leaky garage and got the hood cut and touched up. gonna try and get the louver on today. from what i could feel from the force of the fan, the engine dams the air up and to the side, not much seems to be an issue beyond the strut tower, so i limited the size of the big cut to the front of the engine bay, and put an extra hole just beyond that. and similar holes in front of the windshield instead of the square cut.

somegutsjeep - Your talk about the weather man reminds me of a secretary I had ask me a question because I always complain about weather man, she said to me "How would like to work for someone that lied to you every day?"

You are moving along great. I have missed a week of working on mine due to other things going on. Hope to get back at it tomorrow or Friday.

i lost my nice big 2.5 car garage when i moved in with my girl..........the rig sits outside now. and all my work has to be done in the driveway. and this is Cleveland the weather changes every 5 mins.
with my limited time after work and wkends if the weather is crap, i'm screwed. it's my biggest hurdle right now.

Damn you gave up a garage for a GIRL???? She had better be perfect...
I don't envy you for having to work out in the weather. I did that for a LONG time.
But you Jeep is coming along great.
