Squealing sound when accelerating

Edit: It's a 2004 4.0 automatic

I've got a loud squealing sound that just started today when accelerating, I did some research but I'm not really sure on the culprit. Many posts said drive shaft if it doesn't make the sound when in neutral, but my Jeep definitely does. If the revs are up past idle, it squeals, parked or not.

Fluids all look okay, but I'm going to recheck in the morning since I checked when the engine was still hot when I got home after hearing it. I know I could use an oil change, though.

I was thinking maybe it's the OPDA issue? I'm not entirely sure but I'll upload an audio clip in the morning as soon as I get the chance and I'll reply back here with it.

Any thoughts or ideas of what to look for?

Hopefully sometime soon I won't be posting these "I've got a problem" threads and be able to post pictures of the finished/fixed Jeep!

Belt, tensioner, pulley are all possibilities also.

Reminds me of a case in a Wal Mart here in Alabama....true story too..guy molested a pig in the bathroom. I figure he wouldn't have got caught, but the pig squealed on him.

My 05 LJ just started this also. Sounded like screaming monkeys. I am going to look at the idler pulley but I already have an ODPA so I am going to change it just in case.

Check everything belt related. Belt, tensioner, and pulleys. Replacing a belt might stop the noise, but if a pump is going out, it won't solve the underlying problem.

Probably not OPDA... but it is worth visually inspecting. Most OPDA sounds go away within a minute.

As others have said.. probably belt related. I am assumung that it squealed in neutrel and stationary?

If moving.. could be ujoints to wheel hubs.

Imo

Happeed while moving and neutral/stationary. This mornining I went out to poke and prod at it/get a recording.

I started it up and lightly revved it, threw the belt - looks like the harmonic balancer is bad. It's walked off toward the fan a good ways and caused it to throw the belt off. Just picked up a new harmonic balancer and new belt, the old one is the original I'm pretty sure.

I'll update back here once I get everything swapped out

Very very late reply but it was the harmonic balancer like I posted before. I got halfway through replacing it and realized I didn't have all the right tools to get it done properly so I took it to a local shop. In and out for $100

I ended up going out to start up the Jeep with the hood up to check it out, right after I started it up the belt flew off. Got underneath it and the outer ring of the balancer was barely hanging on. Fixed up and got an oil change, running perfectly now!

Also for anyone trying to find the bolt size, it's 1/2-20-1.25. I lost mine somehow and had to get a new one, someone in a different thread confirmed the size for me.
