Random photos: Got anything interesting, unique, strange?

Sometimes I think I have the best job in the world. Not just for what I do, but for where I get to go.

This is on the Manitou Springs & Pikes Peak RR. The 100+ year old rail bed is being replaced. We are somewhere around 11,000”. I did an adjustment on the big yellow thing for the customer.

Just to give you an idea of what a 25% grade looks like.

That's super cool! So they are going to bring back the cog railroad? I found a little book about it at the thrift store a while back, and it was interesting to read about all the generations of trains they have gone through. I remember riding it as a kid when we came out to go skiing.

Yes, they are updating the entire line. The original rail, ties, and cog rack were over a century old and shot. The new steel ties are set in the ballast instead of on the the ground like the old wood ones were. Should make for a much smoother ride. A lot of new rolling stock, too. I’m hoping to stay employed long enough to be there for the reopening.

Holy cow! The random stuff we/I find out about here is totally amazing.

When I saw the picture I almost posted a comment about hearing clank-clank-clank like the first hill of a roller coaster but I figured whatever I was looking at was due to something else. I wonder how long I'll spend tonight searching, reading and learning about cog railroads, after I hit POST REPLY.

The good ones always leave to soon, and the POS's seem to hang out too long. Just ask @KimsJeep

That makes me think of the Dennis Leary comedy bit "I mean Stevie Ray Vaughan is dead, and we can't get Jon Bon Jovi in a helicopter. Come on, folks. "Get on that helicopter John. Shut the f*#k up and get on that helicopter! There's a hair dresser in there. Yeah, go ahead in there, yeah yeah."

A little different than most posts in this thread...

Since I'm dealing with online classes, I thought I'd setup a nice PC with a few monitors to make things easier. I've been into computers since high school when I built a custom watercooled high end gaming PC. The one I've built lately isn't quite as extreme, but it will easily deal with data science and programming projects as well as any games I want to throw at it.

If anyone is looking for an afternoon project, you can save hundreds by building a PC yourself instead of buying one from a company like Dell. It is very easy if you use PCPartPicker.com and honestly a fun project.

I'm only halfway through building mine, but the specs are a 10700k, RTX 3080, 1TB NVME storage in Raid 0, and 64 GB of 3600 MHZ ram. Still need to get the graphics card later.

I currently have a 4K monitor on the left and 1440p 144HZ monitor on the right.

Nice setup. Having multiple large screens is the only way to go. Can't understand people who view the Internet through tinsy screens - much less get any work done!
