2006 Jeep LJ build thread

Looks awesome! But man, that negative battery terminal is indeed toast... WOW!
It seriously almost killed me today. I'm really surprised I didn't notice it earlier than today lol. It was falling apart in my hands.

Really pumped about getting the new parts (hopefully in stock) on Monday and getting them installed. I went ahead and ordered the SYE kit but I think I'm putting it on hold for a while and doing another upgrade or two first.

Well I just finished up. Sold the old winch for exactly what I paid for it almost a year later! Upgraded to the Smittybilt X20 winch. It's a 10,000lb winch, water proof, wired and wireless. I went ahead and purchased the Factor 55 fairlead and the poison Spyder 10 inch light bar winch mount. Still waiting on the JCR front license plate mount.

Overall really happy with how it turned out. 10 inch KC light bar on the bumper, 2 HID's on the windshield. I'll be able to see right in front of me and as far as the eye can see! Now I just need to put it to use!

Next project... water pump replacement on the Jeepster.

Ha, you've got a nice Mickey Mouse light pattern there, looks bright as hell!

Stumbled across the fuel over flow fix thread! Glad I read it. Bought the part, followed the instructions, and the problem is solved! Thanks again @Chris for the valuable information! Best $25 ever spent! We have a TJ recessed neck in our Jeepster that has the same issue. The set up I bought is off of an 05 model so this explains why I have the same issue. Going to fix it next!

Yep, we can thank Al Gore and the ethanol in our fuel for that one! It's a real annoying issue, isn't it?

Easy (and cheap) to fix at least!

I am finally ready for summer! Just kidding. I've been ready for summer. I just finished a few things to make summer a little more enjoyable. Finally got the half doors rekeyed so now the locks match the ignition, tail gate, glove box, and console. Also picked up a Banks cool air intake that is like new for $75! I know some people really think it's not necessary but I kept the stock box just in case I don't like it over time. Figured I could at least get my money back on it if not make a few bucks.

Mine came with that Banks air intake. Those things are like $300 plus brand new, so you scored a good deal on it.

While I'm not an advocate of cold air intakes, the banks unit is very nice, and I've kept mine on since it came with the vehicle. I think it is undoubtedly the nicest CAI out there for out TJs.

Oh c'mon Chris... you know you want a snorkel! [emoji474]

The hose worked for mine initially but, the problem came back. I have the tank pulled right now and have fixed it hopefully permanently.

Added the Teraflex 3rd brake light riser yesterday. Super easy to install and worked out great for what I needed. I'd highly recommend it. We are running 33x10.50 BFG Ko2's. You can see that there is still some room behind the breaklighy for a wider tire. It can be adjusted closer to the tire or further away depending on tire size. I didn't fool with any of that though and just zipped it in.

Took our dog to the dog park yesterday with the half doors and she loves them!

Also finally got to use our bestop emergency cover. Works great while I'm at work to keep bird poop out and to help the interior from fading.

After some good advise I went ahead and picked up some PVC pipe, black paint, longer bolts and a rubber adhesive thay is meant for the bottom of funiture to stick in between the PVC pipe and the tailgate so I don't scratch the paint. Got it all installed today and I can now sleep peacefully at night knowing the tire on the factory tailgate hinges and mount are finally secure!

Today we went to the ASM auto upholstery Celebrity car show in our Jeepster. Was pretty cool. I'd say we won the award for the most ground clearance lol. Decided since Gas Monkey Garage was a mile and a half down the road we'd go ahead and snag a pic of the Jeepster in front of the garage. We saw Richard Rawlings while we were there but we just waved at each other as he was just leaving. Pretty cool though. Our CJ7 steering wheel is from Dennis Collin's shop. We bought it before they were famous. At least that's my story and I'm sticking to it lol.

O school, I really dig your Jeepster. It appears to be in cherry condition!

It didn't start that way! Took 3 full years to get it to this stage. Still not perfect but we are enjoying it for what it is. When we brought it home there was so much metal rot and rust it wasn't even funny. People questioned why we even took the time to bring it home. The photo is from the day we brought it home. The only thing holding the fenders and hood down is that strap. It was just sitting on the frame. No body mounts. Just goes to show that hard work pays off!

You're a brave man! After dealing with the rust on my old 69' Camaro, I'll never do the rust thing again. I look at anything with rust now, and I just say, "pass".

Looking at that "before" photo, it's very evident that you put a lot of work into it to get it where it is today. That's awesome though! There's nothing like giving a classic a new lease on life.

Just picked up some Rubicon Express sway bar disconnects. These things are beefy but a pain to install. How does everyone tie up their links? I was going to use the pin (left side of the photo) that the kit included but for these to tie up right I'd have to re adjust them. Not quite sure I want to do that every single time.

I also picked up a full bed tred kit that should be in by the weekend. Will post a full update once it's installed. Super pumped about it.
