What did you do to your TJ today?

Took the mirrors off the jeep this wknd and sanded them down then applied Rustoleum etching primer followed by Rustoleum Bedliner. Not perfect but pretty good.. Oh, also put on new mirror boots.

Back up lights hadn’t worked since I obtained the vehicle. Fuse wasn’t the issue, so I ordered LEDs to replace what I thought were burnt out bulbs... Wasn’t the bulbs.

Thought I was going to have to replace the switch in the tranny. Got under there to assess the “damage”. Found the wiring from the tranny switch to the lights had been disconnected at some point.

Reconnect it and now I have backup lights.

Finished my half doors and got them installed! Super stoked they turned out great both inside and out.

Here’s a link to the work these doors underwent.

Also, on today’s episode of “deals of the day,” I scored an NOS tan soft top with tinted windows and all hardware for $100, as well as an NOS instatrunk.

Weirdly enough, the top fabric and windows are way thicker than they are on my OEM 2000 top. It almost feels like sailcloth? Not sure if they changed materials over the years but either way I’m stoked!

Getting cold up here in the northeast, plus I can use the real estate held by my hardtop and doors, so I put em' back on. Haven't had em' on since I purchased the jeep. Kinda weird. Seems very loud inside. Still, like the way the dark khaki hardtop works with the black jeep. Here's a pic of Rusty wearing her hardtop and doors.

Went to replace the door handles with some I ordered off of Ebay. Ebay ones were not as deep as the original ones, so the retaining keys wouldn't slide in at all. (Lesson learned on cheap parts.)

Went with plan B. Since I already had it out, I just repainted it. Driver side before and after shown below.

I also replaced a broken screw on the footman loop that keeps the door from opening too much.

That’s an amazing deal! And yep, they switched to the heavier top fabric in 2001. When I bought my 2000 the 01’s were just starting to trickle in and that was one of the main changes they were talking about.

Good to know! I remember my 02 oem top felt heavier so I figured they made a switch.

Finally had some space clear up in my garage so I decided to replace the fluorescent bulbs with some 6500k GE LED compatible bulbs before I tucked the LJ in there. Made a pretty good improvement. I have one more ballast I need to fix and put above the LJ. (Don't mind the rest of the mess, damn roommate lol)

That's a steal! You and I enjoy deal hunting. lol. I drove to Scottsdale yesterday to pickup a Bestop LJ sailcloth kit for $180. It was barely used.

What's the furthest you've driven for a deal? For me, it was driving to Prescott last November for a complete NOS LJ soft top ($150).

Took the jeep from san diego to Idaho elk hunting. Unfortunately it was early / pre rut and while I did get on one nighttime screamer I ran out of time before I could make a play. Did call a pack of wolves in, in the dark timber right at dusk. As they closed the distance I decided maybe that's not the best time and place to make a stand, and booked it back to camp. Big windstorm knocked down half the trees in the forest 😂. Spent half a day winching trees off the ridge road. Shoulda took a saw.

Got back and tackled the valve cover leak and replaced the tranny mount. Slowly chasing down all the little nuiscancy problems...

Changed fuel injectors and installed injector / fuel rail insulation while I was at it. The new ones (not oem) caused a nightmare of issues, wouldn't seal at all. Took two days before I put the old ones back in.

Two weeks and it's back to Idaho for some wolf/bear/elk.

Not driving, but found two OEM bikini tops on Craigslist in Arizona. Had to ship a box to the guy with a prepaid label to ship them back to California. $30/each. spent more in shipping, but damn that factory latching system is worth it!

I do enjoy it, and I’m glad someone scours CL and such as much as I do 🤣 I saw that one last night actually that’s a heck of a deal too.

I think my farthest was I drove to Vegas in December a couple years ago for an OEM hard top for like $600. Obviously here in the southwest that’s wicked cheap.

I had someone ship me a set of the Mopar Rock Rails from Hollywood for $250 shipped I think. I’m glad he was willing to do it because those are super hard to find. Someone on the forum actually found them for me in the WTD section!
