My 2004 4.0 with the 42RLE has the output side on the driver's side of the radiator. Or #2 in your photo.

Forgot to ask, are aux transmission coolers directional? Could I place it upside down so I won’t have to use as much hosing or should it always be up with the lines coming out from the top.
