My requirements:
Compact and unintrusive.
Rugged enough for Australian conditions - sealed design.
Good combination of distance, intensity and spread.

Precursor:
I'm not into full length light bars, they look out of place like a "sore thumb" and when up on the windshield they create reflection back into the cabin rendering your Jeep un-roadworthy in my Country/State, in addition, all aftermarket lights must not be fitted above the bonnet line - some locals may argue this but I don't need any heat so I just move on with what I know to be 100% inside the local roadworthy requirements.

With all that out of the way I never thought I'd do it but I bought a light bar! Since I've had it about a year I thought I better post up the results. I was very sceptical about bars vs. round reflectors with the latter being preferred for distance, this thing cost a sh1tl0ad and I was thinking it probably isn't going to be an “everything in the same box” solution to distance and spread but I went ahead anyway.

The sales blurb... "The new Explorer Series high intensity LED light bar from Pro Comp sets the standard in lighting efficiency." $256.99 from Summit

Not long after we fitted it I needed to do a fair bit of country driving so I got a good chance to test on a variety of dark high speed back roads and highways.

At first I was surprised at how much light such a compact unit could throw out but wasn't sure because I live in a city where everything is bright all the time and the LED bar didn't seem as bright as the tradition round driving light Im used to - I haven't had a lot of experience with LED driving lights so my first thought were "this is looking good" but knowing it's hard to tell until you get out on the open road I remained somewhat skeptical.

Once out on the dark backroads I was really surprised! The combination of a wide beam with the centre focused on distance relay works! It just does! At no time was I thinking I wish I could see more or further traveling at 65 and above. If you're looking for a good quality unit that's really compact and packs a punch then this is it. It's perfect for what I need and with limited space it does the job without standing out, like a "sore thumb", I guess you get what you pay for.

It will also serve two purposes in that I need to upgrade my wire rope and this - along with the integrated solenoid and hoop - should also provide good protection from direct sun damage...
