I decided to build a basic tool wall a few days ago, I needed to create a spot to put my grease guns so that they don’t drip everywhere and find stuff without fussing around with cupboards, draws, boxes and crates.

My requirements:
  • Must be practical.
  • Made from scrap or crap.
  • Hold most of my excess tools that don’t live in the Jeep.
  • I don’t have much wall space so it must be compact.
  • Keep tools secure if subject to vibration or knocks.
  • Quick and easy to relocate to a new man cave.
Really happy with the way its turned out and it was a lot fun...

...until the inevitable somewhat dampened down the atmosphere - for as long as it took to clean up and get back on the job (Giggles).

Knowing how many pro mechanics and fabricators are members on this forum, I hope my little tool wall will get blown out of the water like an atom bomb by comparison to others
Show us your Tool Wall!

dammit you guys make me feel like a lazy bum.

I moved into this house in March. I have a wall of beautifully painted pegboard above the longest workbench I've ever had, and my tools are all over the workbench and like 6 of them are hanging.

I can't find any of my own photos, but the seller had it set up pretty good. I'd love to get there, if I could just get some time to do it that my kids weren't following behind me destroying everything.

If it makes you feel better it took me two years to build my bench and get my tools somewhat organized

Imagine an absolute disaster of a mess, that’s mine.

Imagine something worse than that and you're at mine.

I am working on it though. It's in my basement, with exposed beams in the ceiling, so I recently drove a bunch of nails into a beam and hung my wrenches up. Getting some pegboard to go behind the workbench. But at the moment walking from one side of the room to the other is an adventure.

Yeah, I want to post, then I see pics like the last one, and I say... nah, too embarrassing. I'm actually in the process of reworking my garage... maybe someday I'll post a pic... maybe.

This is the part of my tool wall that meets the OP’s criteria.
The counter is removable and covers three storage modules that house a variety of home made, cast off, and garage sale organizers and drawers.
(Except the machinist chest, that is one of my many finger joint projects) Not scrap or crap. Lol

It’s been in four different houses and has been moved across the country 3 times.

Thanks for posting, I wish I could say which toolwall I like the most but I love them all!

It's important for me to have a place to hang my tools where I can solve things and I'm not just referring to the problems in my head, sometimes I actually fix problems with my Jeep.

Coming out of seven months in lock-down this week with all the shops, pubs and most services back so my tool wall will get a new tool or two to mark the event - I'm thinking it's the best therapy as the alternative is to listen to someone tell me how my brain works when the truth is your dam lucky if your brain just works, everything else will fall into place if you get to work on something - like a TOOL WALL! :p The best thing about a tool wall it that it ever evolving so I hope to keep posting updates as I continue my therapy.

Went with the old school pegboard. When we get a different home I plan on buying a large rolling tool chest.
I'm keeping an eye out for a scrap pegboard every time I drive through an industrial area so I can make make a better tool wall but I think I'll eventually end up getting a "rolling tool chest", maybe a dolly while I save up.

OMG That Hog!

the lighting is poor. Makes it challenging.
lol I have that challenge

I need some shelves
my shelves (not in the photo but I have lots) for your draws, deal?

Take a trip to the Victorian Hare and Forbes shop. If you think the Jeep brings on upgrade mania, mind will be blown.

I currently need to drill one hole through a large nut and threaded bolt to pin the nut. Is it wrong that I'm thinking of buying a Floor Stand drill press to do this?

Thanks Dazz! Thinking I might check H&F out tomorrow but unfortunately I think you've lost a subscriber as my wife used to like your channel, until you linked mme up with H&F :p

Everyone should own a Floor Stand drill press.

The tools have a definite mental health benefit, so are a need not a want.

IMO you will be happier in the long run to get the rolling tool chest you’re thinking of.

I wanted bench space more than I did a top box so I built my bench so that my work rollaway fit underneath. This my main bench. It’s located at the end of the “tool wall” I posted above.

An added benefit was that because I had this box at work for 15+ years I didn’t need to relearn where everything was located.

This post has inspired me to finally get off my ass and clean up / organize my garage... got this far since the post began. Still need to build some shelves/cabinets, storage racks for wood/metal, and whatnot... but much better already :)
