Wildman's TJ is getting a face lift

Well it was Christmas at my house a DAY early..... The Brown Santa dropped off some boxes of stuff for me to open and play with.

First is a 19" Degree Wheel from Moroso..... For us OLD farts to be able to see.... I have an 11" wheel but I like this better.

Next is a Digital Dial Indicator. Just thought I'd try one out and see how I liked it.

12" set of Calipers for measuring the Test Fit Push Rods which will be somewhere around 7" long so my 6" calipers wouldn't work.

No arguement that they aren't GREAT toolboxes but I have no reason to spend that kind of funds on a toolbox anymore. Heck yes I'd love to get one but unless I come across someone doing a panic sale I ain't getting one.
Yes most do know and great deals are hard to come by. I missed one a few years ago when a buddy was needing CASH yesterday and had a box with all his tools for $8K..... It was the big 72" bottom & 56" top full of name brand tools.
That would've been a DEAL! But I understand completely, where I'm at now tools are supplied so my box sits in storage (apartment living). I wouldn't spend the coin for at home unless it was a deal like that either. Especially full of tools to boot!

Can't help but drool over them though. I'm in a facebook group for tools/boxes and every now and then someone will post something like a Mr. Big.. man 🤤 (from Google)

Cam cards and what you need to know from them. After watching a TON of How To videos on degreeing a cam I've learned a few things I didn't know. I'm going head out to the garage tomorrow & start the install process of my cam.

The term "Degreeing In Your Camshaft" means you are making sure the camshaft's position in the engine coincides with that of the crankshaft, so that their rotation is synchronized.

Here is a good write-up from Crane Cams on this process of degreeing a cam. In the article they also explain what the information on the cam card means.

Got the TNT Customs Steering Rotation/Steering Stretch kit ordered.
Got the PSC remote reservoir & assorted parts ordered.
Contacted Red Rock Off-Road about the steering shaft & was told they'd have to get back to me.

Need to go out and take some measurements for ORO before I can order the bushings for my SwayLoc and then I'm done for now.

Just got a email from Red Rock Off-Road with a tracking number and scheduled arrival of 5 Jan 21. Just happy to have a status on this.

TNT emailed me letting me know they are waiting parts for the TSSK before it can ship. I still have an engine to assemble before all this will matter. But I need to have the engine done to finalize the steering so hopefully it'll all come together. I still have a ton of other things I can do in between all this.

Got a late start out in the garage because my daughters car is acting up and I had to mess around with it first.

I took all my new tools out and played with them for a few minutes just to see what was all there. Then I started cleaning parts. The Scorpion roller rockers I have had been sitting in a box for 5+ years so they were a little nasty and needed cleaning. I'd bought a can of carb cleaner in a 5 gallon bucket from NAPA a while ago and opened it up. I dropped the rockers in it for a second just to get the crud off and took them back out. Then I dropped a bunch of bolts and other parts into the tray and they are soaking right now.

Then I sprayed each rocker with some brake clean and wiped each one down. Then put them into an old coffee can so I can soak them in oil until I'm ready to use them. You only need to soak them for 1 day but more isn't gunna hurt anything.

Stacked them all in there.

Covered with oil and put the lid back on.

Then I got the air hose assembled for holding the valves so I can change out the springs.

Then I started to disassemble the SwayLoc so I can get the measurement for ORO plus it needs to come out to do the steering box rotation.

Take the allen screw out.

Take the outer arm off.

Then remove the inner arm.

You can now see how this dual rate swaybar works. With the AiRock I have a air cylinder to disconnect the bar but they also make a manual version.

Here are the two bars separated.

I'll clean them both up and get the rust off and repaint them before I reassemble them.

I took the measurements ORO needs while I was disassembling them and will fire off that info to them.

And the inner just in case.... I have their older version of the SwayLoc and from my understanding they've changed the size a little but I don't know what the new specs are.

Then it was dinner time and also time to wash my bibs I've been wearing.

Ive got a parts washer if you want one. I don’t have a place for it. It’s yours if you want when I come over.

Well this project seems to always want MORE money spent on it every time I turn around.

Just got done talking to Steve @ ORO and it seems I CAN'T use my current SwayLoc because the bushing won't fit my outer bar diameter. So being the upstanding guy that he is he's cutting me a deal on a new SwayLoc kit.
So my old one wiil be For Sale here soon.

That sucks you cant make the old one work. What was the need for new bushings?

I missed where you referenced why the bar diameter is critical.

I'm going to be installing the TNT Customs steering box rotation/stretch kit. So the stock tube on the front gets removed and you install a smaller pipe forward of the stock pipe. So the pipe shape is different and the diameter is smaller.

I missed where you referenced why the bar diameter is critical.

The bar diameter changed at some point with the kits ORO makes. And the bushings are only made for a 1.5" OD outer swaybar. They don't make the bushings for my version of the SwayLoc.

It's not a HUGE deal. I'll clean up my SwayLoc and will offer it For Sale with a manual latch system that I'll swap off the new SwayLoc. I'm sure someone here might like to have one for half the cost of a new one.

There’s no doubt it will sell quickly, I can’t say enough good things about mine.
