For the life of me, I can't believe people listen to this

I'm mostly a podcast listener. Have been for many many years. But I go through long musical phases. I've been (re)exploring proto-punk/early glam stuff for the last year or so.

I think in our current culture talking "gangster" and sounding like an idiot is thought to be cool. The amount of adults that use "text speak" in professional e-mails drives me fucking nuts.
I hear that cRAP all the fucking time with bumpy bass you can hear 3 blocks away. No thanx. My music is way out of the mainstream for the most part, so I don't "get" a lot of it anyway, but "yaddi yaddi yaddi yaddi yaddi " is even worse than the "yea yea yea" of the Beatles era!

As for adults using text speak - I don't even get adults that attempt to use texting in a professional context at all. *shrug* Texting is great for teenage girls, or for short messages like "Don't forget to pick up some milk", but I've had people wanting to conduct business with me via text. *THAT* drives me nucking futz! Now they can't even try, I dumped texting altogether about a year ago.

Yes, there are some new artists I like (Sturgill Simpson being one of my favs), but most of it is honestly more pop music than it is country music.
When I was a teenager, one morning my dad told me I missed it last night?
He said Whalen Jennings was over last night getting drunk with him and his buddies (we lived on lake Martin in AL).
I asked him who Whalen Jennings was, I'd never heard of him? My dad just sighed.
Now Van Halen, I'd have known, but I hated country back then. lol

Oh man, that's too bad! Back then I would have hated country as well, but if you look back on something like that now you just kick yourself for not having been more aware.

The record companies realized about 20yrs ago that us old farts sitting around the gas station listening to the Hag didn't spend our money on music and concert tickets , so they decided to appeal to the younger generation and tap that revenue. That meant all the artist had to be prettier and the music had to be more pop. Doesn't matter what you saying as long as it rhymes.

I have a couple of autographed books by Willie Nelson. He was good friends with my buddies grandpa. Willie gave grandpa an autographed joint one time in a picture frame with a hand written note behind it that said "Break glass in case of emergency".

Now that's a family heirloom. Sad I never got to meet Willie when grandpa was alive. Sure they have some stories.

Most artists are fakes. They have a stage performance and their voices are digitally altered. Millie Vanille wouldn't have lost their jobs for faking it today.

Auto-tune, or in some cases, straight up distortion is what you get. They hire writers and the rest is acting.

The talent these days is the producer, not the “artist”.

I'll go against the grain here. I listen to a wide variety of music; country, indie, folk, "todays hits", classic rock, and even have some hip hop if I am in the mood. She at least resembles the old hip hop ways (and I am talking 90s), traditional maybe? Gritty? Dirty? Spitting lyrics out at a fast pace vs other rappers who stick to a 4 word beat over and over.
