Front Differential Oil Leak?

I appreciate all the advice. Thank you! I think I can do this!

I have my supply list and will order everything I need from Amazon.

Brake Cleaner
2 quarts Royal Purple 75W-90 Gear oil
Quart bottle pump
RTV Blue
My personal choices for RTV for the diff covers would be, in this order... Mopar RTV, Permatex Gear Oil RTV, then Permatex Ultra Black RTV.

The data sheet from Fel Pro and I called them about this says the use of Sealant will cause the gasket to fail. Feel free to give them a call and verify. Their instructions are very clear on this the Gasket must be installed dry andt hats the reason why fastners need to be torqued to spec anyone that says different is a fool
LOL...

Ok brotha...

You can get all fuzzy with them all you want but we're in the business of customer satisfaction. In other words differentials that aren't leaking post job.

We've yet to see a diff leaking after a cover job with rtv and gasket.
Not
Ever
Once.

I'll let you know when we get the first one leaking back in but this is almost 3 decades and counting. I've got my doubts.
Sorry

I'll get the RDS 6629 Fel-Pro for Dana 44 gasket at the local parts store (because Amazon doesn't have it).

Anything else? Should I do the rear diff at the same time? Does it take 2 quarts of oil, too?

I would save the money and skip the Royal Purple and just use Valvoline, NAPA, or any other store brand conventional 75W-90 or close gear oil that meets the GL-5 spec. You diff is not that picky. $5-8 per qt vs $15-20.

I would spend the money for the lubelocker or fel-pro for convenience to avoid the RTV. If it works without the RTV, you won't have scrape it next time the diff oil needs to be changed.

Exactly, Royal Purple has NO benefit over any other major brand of gear lube like from Castrol, Torco, Valvoline, NAPA, etc. The only thing "special" about Royal Purple is they add a purple dye to temporarily it to give it that "royal" appearance. It's pure marketing bullshit.

I pulled the cover and replaced the gasket today. It went pretty smooth. I used the Fel-Pro and the blue RTP. I took my time and tightened the bolts in a star pattern with a torque wrench st at 25ft lbs. I put 2 quarts of oil in there and she's good to go!

Thank you guys for the advice on this. I felt like I knew what I was doing!
