So I need new front speakers in my 06 LJ , and I see a few different sizes at quadratech and I also see speaker pods.

what is the correct size for the front two speakers ?

and do speaker pods help out with loudness and clarity ?

it will depend on the trim you have. If you have a sub, the fron are probably the pods with the 4" round speakers and tweeters. Theres adapters to put 5.25 in the dash.

Factory front size is 4x6 but you'll get better sound quality if you use an adapter plate to convert it to a round 5.25" size. Polk's DB 5.25" round coaxial speaker would be a good choice. The sheet metal 4x6 to 5.25 adapter plate is available on the web, Crutchfield, etc.

The select increments pods are great. As for 5.25" speakers..... that's a varied subject. I've used Hertz and BLAM speakers in recent re-speakering of cars with great success. Not sure about the Kickers but I do know the Polks mentioned above are a good option.

Much of your sound quality originates at your amplifier and matching of the power to the speaker impedance.

Are you updating the head unit too?

Another vote for the select increments pods and 5.25" speakers, but what really made a huge diffrece for me was adding a pair of 1" tweeters in the top of the dash pointing up. just some small tweeters up high brought the sound up from the floor and made the voices so much brighter and not muddled.

I've had the Select Increments pods filled with Kicker speakers for about a year now. They've been okay, but recently I got a couple of those foam rings with the adhesive on one side. They're actually for 6.5" speakers, but I cut a little section out of them and stuck them on the pods surround the speakers. They seal the speaker up against the grill area of the dash. I think it really helped channel the sound out the speaker grill area of the dash instead of just bouncing part of it off of the backside of the dash.

6.5 inch Kickers mounted in 79 Landcruiser aftermarket MDF/vinyl pods, glued to hard top with Selleys "the one" adhesive. Never coming off. Sounds really good. Link to Pods (not cheap) https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1934222...d=link&campid=5337789113&toolid=20001&mkevt=1

Found these?..

Also , when installing these do you leave the white fluffy material in the pod?

Those are the ones. I got them off their eBay store for the same price with free shipping. The filling is intended to be left in. Fiber filling makes the speaker act like it is in a larger enclosure which will enhance base. I left it in my enclosures. I can't imagine it makes much difference though in a speaker that small.

That same speaker and enclosure with a 1" tweeter in the top of the dash really improved the sound. I am just running it of a cheap aftermarket head unit too. With an amp it will be even better.

If you skip the pods, please make sure you get boom mats behind the speakers. The pods will allow for better sound, only if you use polyfill inside to tune them with a decent speaker. Speaker sensitivity match is more important than anything else.

I chose speakers with a lower sensitivity and opted for no pods, but have boom mats behind the speakers do that the sound is not "lost" behind the dash. Sort of speak. I can tell the difference with some music types with or without the boom mat, which is why i chose to keep it. In my JKU I polyfilled the speaker pods and upgraded the factory speakers to better more sensitive ones and that made a night and day difference, even with the stock unit. I didn't even touch the tweeters.

I'm replacing my front speakers with the Polk DB 462 4x6's and am wondering which foam speaker pods/baffles I should use? I found these. The speakers have a top-mount depth: 1-13/16" so I know I need at least that, but is it better to go with more depth or does it matter?

Having a little air behind the speaker is a good thing. I replaced mine with a fairly deep 5.25" circular unit and didn't have a lot of room to spare inside the pods I used.

I tried the brackets & 5 1/2" speakers in my TJ but my knees still couldn't hear them very well. I got a skypod, cut it to fit 4" kickers & will never go back!!!
