Anyway to stealth sleep in a TJ?

My '04 TJ is standard length. I am 6'2". Is there any ideas how to sleep in my TJ? I looked at the floor to take out my passenger seat and that looks crazy hard to figure out. Hammock ideas? I don't think it would be long enough even at a diagonal?

Just wondering if it can even be done.

Thanks.

I've had some success taking the passenger seat out and putting some padding down to flatten it out, it's just a bit tight between the center console and the rear wheel well. I'm 6'3 so you should be fine.

I slept 3 nights in my TJ on a wheeling trip this summer.

Hammock hung diagonally.

It worked, but I had to have the hammock tension just right to be able to fully stretch out but also not have the center console digging into my hip. The photo is my proof-of-concept trial before the trip. On the actual trip, I used a ratchet strap from the end of the hammock over to the passenger sport bar so I could get in and ratchet it until I'd found the perfect height. I took the back seat out for the trip, but in it's normal position it would have worked too. It was a little too high when it was laid down or folded up. When I got out in the morning, I just tied it with a bungee around the tube the sound bar mounts to, and tucked the slack up on top so it wasn't hanging and obstructing my rearview mirror.

The catch is I'm only 6'0" and I used every bit of hammock length. 2" taller and I probably would have had to have my knees bent or my feet hanging out.

Also it's not entirely coincidental that I decided to get an LJ approximately 3 weeks after that trip. I loved the convenience of not having to set up a tent in a new place every night, but more space would be better, and that extra 15" of tub length will be great for my back.

I’ve always wanted to try this, wow I didn’t think it would be that cramped still though

"stealth" enough or nah?
Not really “stealth”, but it’s not a bad camping idea in fair weather.

And the hammock idea is ok if you’re a young man I guess. At my age, sleeping like that for one night would kick my ass.

Personally, for me at 6’+, there’s no way to stealth sleep in a TJ.

Maybe if you’re a midget, in an LJ.

I think the only way this works is to entirely remove the passenger seat, or be fairly short. In an LJ I could keep my passenger seat in flipped forward and just barely sleep (I’m 6’2”) - it worked if you’re like me and can sleep wherever. The hammock way didn’t work for me, but I need to try that again since it would allow sleeping without removing all the gear that I stashed under my Jeep.

I know a guy on the forum, about 6’ or more who slept that way once on my property in TX. Just removed the passenger seat.

I never realized how many people need to stretch out flat to sleep, I‘ve slept in the passenger seat, in a mummy bag with the seat reclined. I trained in a cramped airline seat for 40 yrs, hell I don’t even need the recline anymore I get 2+ hours of sleep Monday mornings in my standard cab work truck because I get there early to avoid traffic.

I live 20' feet from a new brewery. I was going to work at 1am and found a drunk, 250lb guy sleeping in the front seat of my Scion a couple months ago. A TJ is bigger. Anything is possible. 🍻 o_O
p.s. He spent the rest of the night sleeping in the local jail. My Scion is much more comfy than a jail cell with no pillow. Not that I would know anything about that. 🤫

This guy managed to build a cot that sleeps 2 and stuff it in a Wrangler. (And keeps both seats.)

Two People Living in A Jeep Wrangler

This is the same guy glowell222 mentioned above. (iamjake) He upgraded to a two person setup so he could take his girl with him on his road trip.
