What did you do to your TJ today?

What is that under the volt meter? The picture is too blurry and out of focus for me to tell.
Sorry about the focus - my age might have something to do with that! It is a "BS" (vacuum) GAUGE.. I had it laying around from another project and used it as a filler gauge until I get my Trans Temp gauge installed. (Not sure where I am going to cut in that sending unit - before cooler or after or both.. Oh yea trying to add an old cooler from a Cop '87 Mopar 318. The pod seems to work fine as it is out of the way and easy to see while driving.

Finished installing the paramount automotive flares. For $179 I’m pretty pleased with the finish product. They feel solid as a rock once installed, fit perfect, and look good. Hopefully they maintain shape and color for a while, time will tell. She is garaged kept so that will help!

Put the transmission temp sender in the pan.

I finally installed a new stereo. Retractable touch screen fit perfect. I use a miniSD with about 500 songs on random. BT my cell for calls. I am amazed that even with my soft top, people say the hands free calls sound good. I like that it has a volume knob vs button and a remote. Next is hooking up two cameras as it came with this option. I kept my OEM speaks as they still sound good to me. Total about $150 through Crutchfield.

My wife and I bought a 2000 TJ 4.0 on Mon, 17-May. My net door neighbor has dubbed it, "The Desert Rat" as a hat-tip to the old series, The Rat Patrol. He says I gotta take the top off and mount a Gatlin gun in the back. I could be cool with that... ;)

Below are a few pictures of how it looks today, bone stock. All that gray trim is supposed to be black, BTW. We were supposed to get an almost-new soft top that was traded in with the Jeep, but it "disappeared".

I've read — and will soon be re-reading — @Chris' post, A recipe for an affordable but quality 2.5" lift. All the parts were ordered on 21-May and arrived this week.

I had to make one part substitution because I could not find the recommended bump stops. I substituted Daystar's Bolt-in Extended Polyurethane Bump Stops. I also opted for the TeraFlex 1" Body Lift Kit.

It's all sitting in the garage... waiting. I'm not going to start this weekend, because the wife and I have time off together for the first time in a while and we are going to go do some running around in the desert in the TJ. We've already made a couple of forays — one down the west side of our mesa and the other down the east side on (poorly maintained) dirt roads and 2-track UTV trails.

Today, we drove up a power-line maintenance road to the north side of the mesa and then along the railroad tracks for a few miles then down along the freeway for a bit till we got back to pavement. Along the way. we got into some deep sand and had a couple of short, near-vertical climbs and a couple of downhills that took our breath way. This 21-year-old TJ with 184K miles and 10-year-old BFG A/T TA K02s took it all in stride. We came home with big smiles on our faces.

This week, I replaced the wiper blades and the gas cylinders on the rear glass. Today, I installed the shifter boot plate to hold down the shifter boot — much cooler! I have also been trying all week to get two broken Footman loop screws out of the driver-side door so I can install a new Footman loop. That has me very, very frustrated...

Welcome!!

Made a 270 mile round trip to pick up these:
20210529_160903.jpg

Even though they're the wrong color, and one of them even has some kind of bedliner on it, they are totally rust free, are complete, and the inner panels don't have a single crack.
At the price I paid, they're still well worth the trip and the sweat equity I'll have in them to repaint.

With this weekend on it's way I decided to show my pride in my 20 years of service as a U.S.N. Seabee by putting decals on the Old Boy! I topped it off with a Bullet Flag Type cowl decal.. I like it and I prefer my Patriot Blue Jeep over an Old Navy Gray any day!

Sea Bees "Can Do!"
My son-in-law is a Sea Bee, with 19 years under his belt. I live close enough to the Hueneme base I could throw a baseball over the fence.

Ya that is the best, I agree - but a whole hell of a lot more work!!
I also got a Dorman pan with drain plug, but I sent it to mrblaine and he braised a 1/8 NPT bung in it for me for a good price. If I hadn't already had the Dorman pan on hand, he said I could have had it drop shipped to him and then he'd send it out when it was ready. It's been leak free. My attempt to weld in a bung on a pan was not-so-leak-free. LOL

Finished up the main ground upgrade, despite that darn ground stud on the engine block being a bitch. Now have #2 from battery to block, then block to firewall (So I don't have 2 huge wires going to the battery). A third #2 jumper connects the block to the frame at the RH engine mount.

This was done primarily to add a second ground path through the frame et al for the winch in addition to its direct-to-battery connection. In theory this gives me a very low impedance on the ground side of the winch circuit. Probably overkill, but it was cheap enough and I like it.

Replaced my spider gears. Probably the most involved project I have taken on. It went very smoothly other than not having the correct wrench for the cross pin bolt. I found deterioration on the spider gears when I went in to change the fluid a few months ago. I noticed it on a photo I took after I finished the project.

as a complete newbie to car mechanics a few months ago I am pretty happy that I was able to do this with the help of this forum and YouTube.
