What did you do to your TJ today?

That could’ve gone better. Put down color and clear on my tailgate… My additional prep wasn’t enough, and a bunch of scratches still showed, the metallic base looks splotchy and uneven, and then the clear crinkled. I think it might’ve been too humid? Ugh. I guess it looks better than primer, and I’ll get extra practice when I do it all over again.

I don’t think it looks bad! Are you going to sand down the clear? It made a MASSIVE difference on my half doors.

Are you going to leave your hinges black or paint to match ?

I dropped mine off at my friend's shop yesterday morning before work so he could do a last once over before my road trip. He also replaced the steering damper since I was getting intermittent wobble in the steering/front wheels. I picked her up after work, no other issues found so we are road trip ready! Today I am going to replace a few more interior lights with LED's :)

It looks SO much worse in person. The base coverage is awful. But good to know once I get something I’m happy with!

I toyed with the idea of painting them, but I have some work to do on the back of the tub below the tailgate, and the end result should work well with the black hinges.

My 2004 has some pretty significant rust on the frame and I have been cleaning up the rust and painting to prevent as much as possible here in the great white north. Just took the skid plate off and had it sand blasted. Painted it and reinstalled.
So I’ve painted the skid plate and now would like to replace the bolts with Stainless Steel. Are the bolts in the picture Grade 8 of 5 or . . . ? Anyone know where to get replacements?

It’s all fixable and you learned something. I decided to not let my ocd win on my half doors since they are a summer option only! You may be shocked what that wet sanding will do, I know I was!

Working up to 600-800 grit will prevent any scratches showing on base coat. The splotchiness, did you use a spray gun or can? Spray gun means the reducer wasnt slow enough so the paint is drying in mid air because its too hot. Can, ha well good luck. Also look up drop coat. When you finish your third coat of base, immediately throw a drop coat which will help metallic lay even across the whole panel and add consistency. Clear crinkle could have been from not waiting long enough with flash times (solvent pop).

You can get an 18-8 stainless but they are magnetic witch means they will rust and there not as hard as a grade 5 or 8 with cadmium plating

I replaced mine with some from tractor supply. Mine were metric and so it was 12.9 or whatever random number and I got them about 2” long.

So I have a Tom Woods DCDS and I’m thinking of going with a UCF no body lift skid. I’ve hemmed and hawed about getting one. What I’m afraid of is that my DS will now be way too short. I’m sure there’s some math I could do to see how much longer the DS would need to be and then I could see if I was still in range. Any thoughts?
