Hello, im currently installing a 2" OME lift kit. Im done with the front, now all that is left is to do the rear. The problem im having is that i cant get the old rear springs out, they are stuck to the bottom spring cradle. I have removed the bump stops on both springs in the rear and they can move freely at the top but it's like someone welded them at the bottom. Is there something im missing, is there a hidden bolt or something holding them in?

Send us a picture. If you are in the rust belt its possible they are rusted to the perch. In the event of that some kroil/pb blaster & a rubber mallet should do the trick.

I does not look that rusted, here are some pictures i hope they help.

Thanks for all the answers. I ended up having to cut the end of the spring and remove it that way, then i chisled away the part that was stuck. It was rusted in there really good.

Clean it up really good with a wire wheel, and paint the perch with some rust preventative primer and paint. That way you can stop the cancer, and prevent it from happening again. I too am almost pulling the trigger on a OME lift, so I may be in the same boat too soon.

The front springs have a keeper on the lower spring perch, the rears are just a tight fit. You did the right thing, but they usually pry off with a little enthusiasm.

now that you mention OME springs..which weight are you going with, the light, medium, or heavy load?

and to anyone else who has OME installed.. did you go light, medium, or heavy and ever wished you had gone the other way? did you mix and match front to back?

I'm trying to decide which weight to go with here since my fronts are pretty sagged

I haven't purchased mine yet, but I have done extensive research. This is only my opinion, but based on what I have read, if you are going to add anything like bumpers, then they say go with the heavy. In fact pretty much I have read that the people that didn't go heavy wish they did.

I personally am going to purchase the heavy, but I just did buy a dirtworx back bumper, and do plan on towing a quad behind my TJ, and at some point will add a winch.

If you are going to drive on the road stock, you can probably get away with a light, but if you plan on anything but stock, go for the heavy is what I have been getting from my research.

This is just my opinion and what I am going to do. I am not a genius by any means so take it for what its worth.

Do all the front springs have a keeper? My 2000 did, but my 2004 had nothing.

My '99 did. OK, one side did, the other side was missing. One of these days I'll get around to correcting that. I don't know, FOR SURE, if all years have front spring keepers or not.

My 99 also only had 1 keeper on the front drivers side

Mine are heavy, i just finished my first test run and im really happy with how they ride.

My 2001 had keepers on both springs in the front, none in the back.

I did the Heavy springs and ended up with 3.5" of lift and major drivetrain vibes. 1" t-case drop did not help so I took em off and installed H&R springs for 1.5" of lift.

My jeep is bare and light though.

I went with the light duty OME when I ordered, as I did not have plans for any add-ons like bumpers and such. Never say never, though, and I did add Dirtworx bumpers. I have to say, however, they made no difference in the height of the lift after the bumpers were installed. Just for my peace of mind, I added 3/4" spring spacers front and rear, just for a bit more clearance. I can see no reason to go with heavy springs in my case, the ride is great, the lift proportions with 32" tires is just what I wanted.

I can never figure out where the 'light', 'medium', and 'heavy duty' distinctions come from. I only see light and heavy offered.

No spring retainer clips on either of my front springs.

I only netted about 1.75" of lift from the light duty OME springs, probably due to the heavier GVWR of the Rubicon. I wonder what those would have netted on your TJ?
