Has anyone ever installed an exhaust system on their jeep similar to one on a HMMWV? I mean one that comes out the side towards the rear and sticks way up in the air. Not sure if it’s something I would seriously consider installing but I can’t find any pictures on google.

This is what I’m referring to^^^

snorkel in the front and that exhaust in the back. add a periscope and you have a submarine ! 🤣 hey i might try that except use a flexible drier vent hose for the intake and exhaust and attach them to a swim ring so they stay above water. dang this just might be my million dolla ideer !!!!!! got to go headed to the patent office 🥳 it's going to rain $100 bills

For what possible reason would one need such a thing? The intake will solve the engine problem while it is running, so the only good reason I can think of is to be able to stop and start the engine while fully submerged. And I can't for the life of me think of a situation where I would want to do that in anything other than a submarine.

And it is ugly.

Seriously - what purpose does that serve?

I totally agree. I was mostly just curious to see if it had been done before but I’m seeing more clearly now why no one has.

I always assumed the mil-spec purpose was just what you described - being able to restart the engine while fording. Don’t understand what the application would be beyond that, nor why it would ever need to be on a civilian truck.
