Picking up where I left off

I love me some V8 power in a Jeep (can't wait to pull the tractor motor out of my LJ and replace it with a G3!), but everyone I know that has installed a R2.8 has liked it and quite happy with the performance, gas mileage, reliability and simplicity. Not cheap but not ridiculous either (at least compared to what has already been discussed).
The R2.8 is where I’m going when I replace this dog. Selfishly I wouldn’t mind seeing Chris do it just for more datapoints!

I know you know wright and wrong. Good and bad. I wish I could tell you to install an LS and if you did not like it I would pay for it. If I were a gambler I would go for it because I know you would be blown away.
I don't know of any LS swap that was done that did not have a range of issues that needed to be sorted, dealt with, trouble shot, and resolved over about a year's time after it was up and running.

They range from overheating, electrical issues, gauges not right, not running right, trans shifting like dogshit, etc.

If anyone knows of any individual who has nailed a swap in very short order and has a reasonably tolerable standard of how stuff should be, I would like to chat with them.

Be aware that I have nothing against LS swaps at all. I have lots of issues with doing something that takes so long to get dialed in or get left to be crappy and just put up with. That and most I know of don't make the AC work which ain't gonna fly in Chris's world.

Tell me about your LS swap please.
No LS swap here, I actually love my 4.0.

Back in the day, I did pull a 304 out of my CJ and put in a 258 (best thing I ever did). However, later I dumped a V8 back into the CJ due to peer pressure and it was the worst thing I ever did. V8 was awesome on the road, but I missed the low end torque of the 258 paired with the 4 speed (with crawling first gear) off road. Lesson learned.

Way to get me all excited to start my swap.

No worries, just lower your standards.
I'm a fairly patient person, it'll all work out in the end and the ends will justify the means. My observation is many make it way harder than it needs to be but I'll have to test my own theories and ideas on that.

Did someone say lower your standards? i'm here to help. The first thing you're going to want to do is elevate your own hubris where you can actually believe that the entire world does it wrong and you do it right. :)

Stroker and a SM420!! Transform a CJ to a TG (torque galore)

I'm onboard for the R2.8 also. Would love to get 20mpg and torque up a hill with ease. I wouldn't like the diesel smell on trail though, wonder how dirty they are.

The best I've seen is to keep only the TJ bits that it needs to run the lights and HVAC. Toss the rest and convert to GM.
