M8000-s from amazon is $1100+. Might be able to get it a touch cheaper from some other places but not less than $1k for sure. M8000 is $650 on Amazon and if I get 85' of synthetic rope, a safety thimble and aluminum hawse fairlead for $285 from TRE, minus forum discount, that's about $900. Minus selling the wire on CR. Am I doing the math correct here? Have I missed something cause it seems the second option would be way better at $100-200 cheaper. Thoughts?

TRE's synthetic rope quality is excellent, I have used it. Warn's is too but you're paying a big premium for its name. I'm a big Warn fan but I'd definitely go with the standard M8000 and then add TRE's 3/8" rope with the much more useful and safer Safety Thimble which I swear by.

Your thought process is sound. Exactly what I did.

Thank you gentlemen. Although it looks like the M8000 is no longer even on Scamazon now. It was definitely there last night. Off to search the interwebs.

Milemarker manufactures fine hydraulic winches but I wouldn't touch their electric winch line. They started importing them from China once sales of their hydraulic winches dropped way down once people started complaining how slow they are, and speed can be important on the trail in some situations. I no longer trust the specs on Chinese manufactured electrical products like I once did. And I don't trust that the specs on that Milemarker winch are nearly as good as claimed for various first-hand reasons like below.

For just one example, I bought a Chinese made Chicago (funny brand for a Chinese made product) bench grinder from Harbor Freight a few years ago. My 25 year old 2/3 HP Craftsman bench grinder finally gave up the ghost and smoked its guts out one afternoon. Sears didn't have any more Craftsman bench grinders and I needed one that day so I went over to Harbor Freight. They had one that was a bit larger than my Craftsman and it was marked as 3/4HP, slightly more than my Craftsman had. With high hopes of even better performance due to its claimed slightly higher HP, I plugged it in and turned it on. The first thing I noticed is it took a long time to get up to speed, unlike the Craftsman that was at full speed within a second or two at the most. The Chicago takes a stupid long time to get spinning at full speed. Then, despite its claimed 3/4 HP, it bogs way down to the point of stopping when just using it to wire brush anything. It has no power, I have learned to turn it on as soon as I know I'll be using it and to not push as hard as I'd like to against its grinder or wire brush.

For anyone thinking you can believe all the published specs, you can't.

I was going to pull the trigger on one too, but it's gone and only the M8000s is there :(

One things for sure, I don't believe anything you say about winches anymore. After yours failed in the driveway I'm happy I ignored your advice about it all these years. So much nonsense about Warn being so reliable and not leaving you stranded but at the same time you can get repair parts, wait what? Yours failed in the driveway.

Sorry to disappoint you and your misleading information but my burned up winch motor was found to have been caused by me having used too long of a screw to secure the an aftermarket rope keeper to the drum. It protruded too far past the drum and its tip dug into the support digging out metal shards that eventually made their way into the motor starting to short it out while it was in use on the trail.

Despite that, Warn still replaced the motor at no charge. In 22 years of Warn winch ownership that's the only problem I've had and it was self-caused.

Not to mention you already knew that, or at least should have, since I already gave that updated information in the thread you are referring to when I talked about my winch motor failing. https://wranglertjforum.com/threads...blem-a-few-weeks-ago.22612/page-2#post-373279

Or are you just trying to shovel out shit again because you so obviously enjoy doing so? So if you want to use a different brand because you hate Warn, go for it.

For everyone else, the entire thread talking about what Pagrey hoped would cause me a problem is at https://wranglertjforum.com/threads/my-warn-winch-developed-a-problem-a-few-weeks-ago.22612/

In fact, all that thread does is further solidify Warn's sterling reputation. They repaired an expensive problem at no cost that was not their fault at all, it was owner-caused. Just for you Warn haters. :ROFLMAO:
