The great resignation—where is the hired help?

And now you see why the country is the way it is. Can't have a conversation on anything without someone getting so butthurt they won't continue to discuss it.

People would get paid better if there was no minimum wage. The minimum wage sets the bar for work instead of the quality of work setting the bar for pay.

Did tretops or whatever just put me on ignore? Why yes he did.
Yep me too! That's hilarious and yet sadly symptomatic of our country today. If you cant find a common ground stick your fingers in your ears and quit listening.
@AndyG Has lots of incites on running a business and much can be learned from listening to him. I'm guessing @TRE3TOP has never ran a business nor been self employed and only thinks of employers as the enemy.

I'm going to venture to guess just by your comic demeanor that working with and for you would be a blast. You have a positive work environment. This means more than just a wage.

This spring my son went to "fill in" at his godfathers business (small company that makes soffit and gutters) until a replacement could be found. 10 weeks later my son gave him 2 weeks notice because it was apparent that he wasn't going get replaced and he needed to get back to the farm. When my son described what a shit hole operation it was its no wonder they can't retain people.
I have a big jug of pee in my work trailer I’ve been trying to market as a soft drink - “Dr. Pecker “ . It is not working out well and my guys won’t even try it.

I try to keep it fun, and most importantly create a culture of pride in what we do, how we do it and that working here means doing something positive in life.

Also we are set up well and do great work. Not perfect work- great work. We are extremely clean and detail oriented.

Stagnant wages are a big part of this issue I think. Most people wont go back to work because even if they do, they can't afford most anything. Meanwhile if they stay home the gov will give them everything for free. Why go back? That's my take on it.

$20/hr won't even allow you to buy a house in most places unless you are working 60-80 hours a week. Why would someone come back into the workforce for work 60-80 hours a week just to afford a house, when they can get shit for free from the gov.

It's only going to get worse, I am pretty certain we past the point of return.
Talked to a waiter at the restaurant we were at last nite. He works 2 essentially full time jobs to make ends meet. He's decided to go into the Coast Guard.

Then there's the whole conversation about what's really necessary and what's a luxury. Americans are luxury lovers and would rather pay for the $1,200 iPhones with $120/mo fees than to be able to pay for their house - etc, etc, blah, blah, blah...

Hgtv, pinterest and women keep my industry alive - it is way more than the need for housing.

We ran the Little League in our town for several years. You would get the entitled (iPhone, smoking cigarettes, $100 nail job) wanting the kids to be able to play for free.

I was brutal: "We have enough reserve that the kids could play for 3 years if we didn't collect a dime, but you would treat it like its free and not worth any commitment."

I've always said that the housing market would be VERY different if men were making the determinations! Told my wife once what my ideal house would be: A 50'X100' steel ("Butler") building with rollup doors, at least one lift, and plenty of room for a good metalworking shop. The living quarters would be built inside, with a mezzanine on top equipped with a 25' square full floating wooden dance floor!

We did white also. I installed our kitchen in 2018. Cabinets made by the amish. House (circa 1917 barn remodel) has cement walls, polished cement floors with radiant heat. They had to remake the oven cabinet and doors. Inset doors.

Or a "Shome"
My only concern would be burning down the whole works in some sort of mishap.
