Im installing Ranchos on my 2001 TJ and noticed they are wider than the Zone shocks Im replacing. That said, after installing one, I notice the contact point between the lower spring bucket of my Dana 44 and the tube of the shock is very close. I feel like Ive read that people install these upside down to mitigate that.

Can anyone confirm or give me a suggestion on how to accommodate the new shocks?

Thanks in advance! Photos for reference:

They cannot be installed upside down. Some shocks can, the RS5000x cannot.

The fix for the lack of clearance is to grind the additional required clearance into bottom spring cup. An angle grinder will make short work of that job.

Thank you, Jerry. I'll give it a quick zip with my grinder. Go figure it has to be so close to the gas tank.

I suspected (after posting my inquiry) that these cannot be flipped, after noting the arrow on the shock body.

Cheers!

I did welded on extensions. There are some bolt on options available too, I think. Larger shock bodies (that can't be inverted) and rolling the pinion up as in my case to install SYE kit with double cardan drive shaft lead to the shock on spring perch contact pretty often, it seems.
