The unfortunate TJ of the day thread

Atleast they won’t get hung up on the shovel..

Ok, time for lets argue about your favorite shocks

Ahh I see. I would say with the OME shocks, it feels like there’s too much resistance on the compression stroke but at the same time it also feels like the blackmaxs had less movement due to their being noticeably less movement in the cab. So I can see what you mean. It could be that the BM...

Ok, time for lets argue about your favorite shocks

Just finished my first drive with the new blackmax shocks and I can definitely say they are my favorite. Do an outstanding job with all the small events like potholes and such. The movement is very controlled and at no point was it harsh. There’s a large bump at an intersection near my house...

    Advice on 2.5" lift build

Lol looking forward to it. Sucks about the JK springs though.

    Ahem…. 😉

TJ went into limp mode and threw a P0016 code after changing OPDA

The crown unit is the one you want. I wouldn't worry about the parts number.

What did you do to your TJ today?

I should have started a build thread when I first joined the forum but figured I was already close to the end of the build so I didn’t….. Now I’ve done high lines, installed a trans cooler, done lots of maintenance work, swapped shocks for the 4-5th time, made a DIY front bumper and in the...

Bought my first Jeep could use some help.

I was also looking through your first pics again. Not urgent but you may want to look into going back to stock (rubber jounces) bumpstops instead of those extra long ones. Generally the best way to add extra bumpstop in the front is to add them to the bottom spring perch. I use hockey pucks for...

Bought my first Jeep could use some help.

Same as @Artsifrtsi. Your track bar doesn’t look like it’s meant to mount in the stock location but check it and see. If it doesn’t fit there without coming in contact with anything else then I’d recommend getting a different track bar that is designed to mount at the stock locations. If it...

    Is the transmission skid required?

I have terflex skids. Every skid except the steering skid. I personally wouldn’t recommend them. They are super heavy, super expensive for what you get and from what I’ve read not that stout. I went with them because I got the whole set for practically free from a part out. There are several...

    Is the transmission skid required?

That’s not required and I removed mine for the same reason. I now run an aftermarket one that doesn’t mount to the frame so it doesn’t interfere with your front driveshaft.

    Is the transmission skid required?

I take it you mean the front driveshaft? Your transfer case skid supports your trans and transfer case so it is required to have mounted. Can you supply pictures of your setup?

Ok, time for lets argue about your favorite shocks

I received them this past week and I'll be installing them this week and will report back. I'm really looking forward to seeing how they compare to all the other shocks I've ran.

What are G2 Dana 44 rear axles made of?

I think I’m gonna switch my plans for using the 30 Spline RGA kit and run that with the unit bearing instead of Yukons kit. Use that money for changing my rear bumper and tire carrier.

What are G2 Dana 44 rear axles made of?

Hmm that would make me wonder then if the Yukon kit is stronger than RGAs 30 spline us made kit with the 27 spline stub. If there’s a virtually zero fail rate then why the need, other than disconnecting your driveline would you worry about the 30spline stubs?

What are G2 Dana 44 rear axles made of?

In short I’d say definitely on the 30 and the 44 would be a good idea.

What are G2 Dana 44 rear axles made of?

That makes a lot of sense now. Thanks for taking the time to explain that! I was completely unaware of the interaction between the unit bearing and the stub shaft. Good information to have. How does that change with the use of something like Yukons 30 spline stub free spin kit?

What are G2 Dana 44 rear axles made of?

I’ve heard everything from a 20% to a 40% increase in strength. To my understanding, chromoly axle shafts allow the shaft to twist rotationally much further before breaking plus they are harder to twist than OEM shafts. Best quality shafts are Revolution USA made. Their discovery line are...

Bought my first Jeep could use some help.

From one of your pics it also looks like your sway bar is hanging down a little low. Some longer links would help get it back to correct position. Additionally, your axle side track bar mount has been raised up what looks like 2-4”. Ideally you’d replace that pitman arm with a stock one as...
