I didn't know that - but it makes sense. My dad had a '53 1 ton Dodge before he bought the '63 GMC 1 ton - both with 9 foot beds. He had to modify the camper he bought to fit - it was made for an 8 foot bed. I hear you about modern trucks with their vestigial "beds".

Nice. Much like the '63 GMC I grew up with. Whatever happened to 9 foot beds? They became 8 foot, and now 5 and 6 foot.
