Aren't jounce bumpers kind of useless?

It seems to me that the OEM “jounce bumpers” are soft enough that they wouldn’t actually do anything, no? The way it’s designed I suppose the function is to soften the hit of the cup against the spring perch. I just don’t see that happening with the hundreds of lbs of force applied to those...

What is this thing on the side of my Jeep?

2005 Rubicon. I'm referring to the black metal plate wrapping around the lower edge of the body. Is that meant to protect against rocks? Is it factory-installed or aftermarket? I must say that it doesn't look very beefy.

My radio is draining 0.5 amps when it's off

Thanks for all that information. I think there might be something wrong with the ignition switch. According to the manual you’re only supposed to be able to remove the key from the “lock” position, but in my car I can remove the key from the “off” position if I want to.

My radio is draining 0.5 amps when it's off

Holy crap, I just realized that I had turned the key all the way to the "accessories on" position. If I turn the key to the first stop, the current draw is zero. Now what I don't understand is what is using the 0.5 amps? Even in the "accessories on" position, the radio is still off, interior...

My radio is draining 0.5 amps when it's off

Hello, The other day I woke up to a dead battery on my 2005 TJ. I did some troubleshooting, installed an amp meter and with everything off, it was drawing 0.5 amps. So I started pulling the engine compartment fuses one at a time. Lo and behold when I pulled the radio fuse, the current went to...

Took my TJ off-road. Sometimes transmission sounds like it's chewing rocks

I’m not sure. The thing that makes me think the problem is in the gearbox is that a couple of times, after the rattling started, I came to a full stop with the clutch pressed and the rattling continued for several seconds. When you are stopped, nothing is moving in the transfer case, I don’t think.

Took my TJ off-road. Sometimes transmission sounds like it's chewing rocks

Today I took my 4-cylinder, 5-speed TJ to an off-road trail in Colorado. Everything was going well for a while, and then it happened. Going downhill in first gear there came this ugly noise from underneath, as if the gearbox were chewing rocks. Then I came to a complete stop and the noise...

    Replacing oil pan gasket

The oil pan gasket on my 2.4 liter is leaking. Has anybody replaced it in their garage? I’m trying to decide whether to try to do it myself or take it to a mechanic. I mean, it seems simple enough. Thanks in advance for any comments or suggestions.

Piecing together a 2 inch spring lift

I did a 2” lift recently. Springs, shocks, rear trackbar relocation bracket, and adjustable front trackbar. I tried to see if I could use the rear trackbar without any bracket, and it was just too short. I used straps, had people push, no matter. With the OME relocation bracket it lined up just...

Rancho RS55239 and RS55241 shock travel?

I just lifted my TJ 2” and installed Rancho RS55239 and RS55241. The RS55239 are too long. I had to add 2” of bump stop to keep the shock from bottoming out. I guess it would be OK with a bigger lift or with bigger tires.

2.4 liter oil pressure sensor location?

Is that it? I took that picture from behind the battery. If that's it, then in order to replace it do I need to remove the air filter assembly and the heat shield? Thanks.

My instrument cluster is going nuts

First I started the engine and the oil pressure gauge was stuck in low, and the “check gauges” light came on. I turned the engine off and back on, and this time the gauge went to the middle point and everything was fine. Fast forward several days and the same thing happened, except this time it...

Parking brake cables over or under the sway bar?

Look under your rear axle. Are the parking brake cables over or under the sway bar? Thanks.

Front sway bar links are too short after installing lift

This is what I mean: I lifted that side of the car until the suspension stopped extending. At that point what's keeping it from extending any more is the sway bar. The shock has another 1.75" to go and the spring is almost fully decompressed. It just seems wrong that the sway bar link is what...

Front sway bar links are too short after installing lift

So I installed ProComp springs that are 2.5” taller than stock and Rancho 5000x shocks (55239 and 55241). I did the following test on the front: with the track bar disconnected but the sway bar link connected on one side, I started lifting the frame on that side, the suspension extends and...
