My quest for a 32RH pan drain that doesn't break the bank

    Personally, lube locker.

What did you do to your TJ today?

What an amazing coincidence. Right up there with boating accidents & firearm losses. Uncanny.

    Can I save this transmission?

Well, this may get me close. https://www.mcmaster.com/products/external-snap-rings/speared-ends-external-retaining-rings/ I'll need to take more precise measurements, but this has the potential to work.

What did you do to your TJ today?

I hope you're not trying to imply malfeasance on my part. Of course the sellers were on hand, despite my having bought the Jeep 7 months ago and them living 90 minutes away. Why wouldn't they be?

    Can I save this transmission?

Well f me. The snap ring I've been waiting on isn't the right one. But it's not my fault, sort of. I got the specific part number through quite a bit of digging and figuring out what parts exchange with other transmission parts, and then I found it for sale some place. But what they sent...

Coolant tube from water pump leaking after replacement

I've always wanted to do this but it seems like the replacement fitting won't allow for nearly as much flow as the actual pipe. Am I dumb for being worried about this?

What did you do to your TJ today?

File this under "nothing is easy." Went to title/register daughter's 97 today. Bought it in November, but have not really driven it much due to working on it etc. When I bought it, the owner was in North Dakota while one of her kids was having a baby. I was in contact with her, but a...

    NSG370 vs 42RLE

It doesn't have the nub on the end. The splines go right to the end (never mind a tiny chamfer). Also the valve body doesn't have the TCC module (different from the solenoid). (phone died this morning, can't take pics)

What did you do to your TJ today?

yeah, well, I may have bought the parts off somebody else. :shame: They were basically new, but that coupler wasn't the moog one.

    NSG370 vs 42RLE

I'm currently working on one out of an 89 that is a non-lockup. The amount of variations is kinda crazy.

Transmission issues, no reverse, neutral is drive

I would start by disconnecting the shifter linkage at the transmission and manually shift it into each gear to verify if you've got a shifter/linkage problem or something in the transmission.

    Can I save this transmission?

It needs to work on the first try. Honestly, I’ll be pretty happy if it clearances ok and the input shaft spins free after I install the pump. Anything beyond that will be absolute gravy. I know why the shop gave her the parts back now. I mean, I knew when she first sent me the pics and...

What did you do to your TJ today?

Did the ZJ upgrade on daughters 97, but I didn’t discover that the drag link coupler didn’t have the square opening on the clamps, so I had to take both drag links all apart and put the old coupler into the new setup. That was as much fun as it sounds.

    Can I save this transmission?

Seriously?! In general or just this model? It doesn’t help that this is an 89 which is right on the cusp of part numbers changing and other minor(?) design changes.

    Can I save this transmission?

I’m about *this* close to throwing in the towel on this. Check out this pump gear from the donor trans. Note the lugs that the TC grabs on to to spin the gear. Now look at hers. Something sheared off those lugs. Assuming these clearance ok I can use the donor gears, but it’s just one...

Mistake and now TJ will not turnover

I'm guessing he means the throttle body, but it took way too long for somebody to correct that. There may be a better way, but I would keep the air intke tube off the throttle body and prop the butterfly open and wait for the gas to evaporate. In the meanwhile, checking the fuel pressure at...

My quest for a 32RH pan drain that doesn't break the bank

Yep, 100% fits. The other pan I found off a different trans that happens to bolt up doesn’t have the right clearance.

    Can I save this transmission?

Well I may have spoke too soon. I actually did the clearance test on the wrong drum, so when I went to load up the actual drum, it was way too low. Like "you need an extra clutch & steel" low. Which means it's a 5 clutch drum. The FSM for '89 (if I hadn't already revealed this is actually...

    42RLE Rebuild Strategy

I've only ever had one 42RLE apart but it wasn't mine and I wasn't rebuilding it. But the rebuild kit will guide you to what needs to be done. The more expensive kits come with a bushing set, but I typically only replace the bushings if they look or feel worn. They're surprisingly durable...
