How long do catalytic converters last?

No, with the tummy tuck and skids on my jeep its a major project to even see the rear cat, let alone look into it. It's tucked in so tight btwn the TC skid and tub, that I have maybe 1" clearance btwn skid and tub floor. Going to have to drop the skids, hang the trans and TC on jack stands...

How long do catalytic converters last?

I think they are bad because the jeep is 14 y/o with 113,000 miles on it. And because I've replaced everything else except the cats and it fails smog for one reason or another every two years since 2017. I had a Toyota truck, its exhaust started smelling like rotten eggs. It was the cat...

How long do catalytic converters last?

BTW, I saw Chris's, seriously in depth write up regarding O2 sensors. Good stuff there. Thank you Chris. That's why I went with NTK sensors. My issue is whether or not my cats are toast. I think they are. It's a $1,000 question for me.

How long do catalytic converters last?

I think it's pre 1974 here in CA. Point being these older vehicles die off due crashes and just becoming too expensive to repair for their value. Unfortunately in this scenario, Jeeps have a high resale value... if they pass smog. 🙂

How long do catalytic converters last?

Exactly. When I retire in 4 years we'll be moving to a free state.

How long do catalytic converters last?

Not long in my neighborhood. Coyotes live in the big shitty still. Anyway, my '05 TJ I replaced all four O2 sensors 2 years ago with the recommended NTK sensors. Now, as in... literally today, my jeep failed smog due to O2 sensors. Pre cat or after cat. Unknown. But my Jeep is 14 years...

WTB: Full set of patriot blue fender flares

I have them. From my 05 TJ RME in factory Patriot Blue. Gotta dig them out of the garage rafters. They have a few nicks in them, but overall in good shape. $200 plus shipping. If interested I'll dig them out and take pics for you. Lemme know.

    Unable to pass emissions

Well, took my TJ down to the recommended smog shop. Great guy at the shop. Thank you mr.blaine! Anyway, the 02 sensor heater monitor(s) dealio passed with "Ready" status. Yay. But now its reading cat O2 sensor not ready. So it failed. I won't prolong this thread anymore with my drivvle as my...

Never thought I'd see this in a new pickup

I would have bought a new Power Wagon. Man, I do love them. But tow capacity isn't nearly what I need.

Never thought I'd see this in a new pickup

Thru the typical modern fashion. Screen on center dash. It's not touch screen like the higher end models, but there are 4 directional bottons below the screen. Sync and hands free phone op, is pretty standard even on the low end trucks like mine.

Never thought I'd see this in a new pickup

Right! My truck has no carpet, as seen in the pic. Ya gotta go low end to get long life and low maintenance... and old school quality.

    Difficult steering adjustment screw

It was insanly tight. They obviously used locktight. Locktight Red. Or epoxy. With a good deal of frustration and swearing, I adjusted it per the factory service manual. No satisfactory performance benefit was found. I went PSC.

    Difficult steering adjustment screw

If you go with the PSC box. Try Summit and Jeggs for prices. I bought mine from Summit and it was under everyone else by, well, a LOT. Delivered.

    Difficult steering adjustment screw

I'm no pro, but a cpl months ago I replaced my steering box on my 05' TJ. You should have the same steering box as I did; A Mercedes box. No adjustment helped in any significant way. As I rolled on 33's for 30 thousand miles. You might want to look onto a PSC steering gearbox. That's what I...

What's the advantage of synthetic winch line vs steel cable?

When a flat bed tow truck breaks a steel line and it nearly (or worse) takes the head off of a stranded motorist as they watch... And said stranded motorist will have a 5 or 7 series BMW. Or Mercedes. Or Porsche. Or yada yada. Steel cable will be illegal. At least in the left and east coast...

Never thought I'd see this in a new pickup

In my 2017 Ford SD F250. Hadn't seen that in years in a 3/4 or 1 ton truck. I bought the truck once I confirmed that it had a rear factory locker. Does Dodge or Chevy / GM still offer the reliable poor man's T Case shift? Oh yeah, no vacuum hubs either. Manual hubs. It was like 1975 again for me.
