    Subaru kicks Wrangler's ass

Honda or Toyota for the quality, Mazda for a compromise on the price and quality. Beyond that, I wouldn't know what to do...

    Barret jackson again...

Ditto. I swear I bond with vehicles, and it's getting worse as I get older. I used to be able to flip 'em without hesitation. Now, I find myself connecting with them, and wanting to hang onto 'em...

    Barret jackson again...

I've picked up a '74 Gremlin, a '69 Datsun pickup, and a '79 Pontiac Grand Prix from auction before. All turned out to be great little vehicles, and I made money off each one. My original comment about "I've come home with a few that I probably never should have..." stems from the fact that I...

    Barret jackson again...

Absolutely love that Pacer! That Forward Control Jeep ain't no slouch, either! Thanks, @ac_. I've been to car auctions before, and yes, it's very easy to get caught up in it all. I've come home with a few that I probably never should have...

    Subaru kicks Wrangler's ass

I don't know how well the new Subarus will hold up now that they're running timing chains, but for me, the damage has already been done. If my life depended on a vehicle's longevity, it would have to be an early Cummins-equipped Dodge. But as we all know, Subaru definitely has its followers, and...

Free stock steel wheels in Oregon!

He used to have them on his YJ, and then put them on his TJ, if I recall correctly.

    Subaru kicks Wrangler's ass

This is for those of you who never realized you've been mispronouncing "Subaru" for all these years... ;) https://youtu.be/zLPp-NFInXw

    Subaru kicks Wrangler's ass

The '99 I had was purchased with only 45,000 miles on the clock when it needed head gaskets. It had the timing kit done at the same time as having the head gaskets replaced. 50,000 miles later, and we're doing a timing kit again, as well as a valve job. I dunno...just seems like there's more of...

    Subaru kicks Wrangler's ass

That's awesome, as I have never been a fan of the timing belt. I would take a timing chain any day over a belt, and gear drive over chains. Do you happen to know when they made the transition to chains? It's a game-changer, in my book.

    Subaru kicks Wrangler's ass

Well, that can only be viewed as really good news for Subaru owners. When did they make the transition? I believe the 3.0 6 cylinder may have been equipped with a chain, all along. Seems I read that somewhere. Thanks for the education!

    Subaru kicks Wrangler's ass

All you Subie owners need to adhere to the maintenance schedule when it come to the timing belts. If you bought a used one and have no proof of the timing belt "kit" (belt, idlers, tensioner and water pump) being done, you are taking a huge risk. And I would highly recommend you use factory...

    You're kidding me, right?

I've got to admit, I have absolutely no issue with a child receiving a good swat across the ass. I figure that's why our rumps are so well padded...perfect for that sort of discipline. But some of these stories are cringe-worthy, and definitely outside the realm of what I can agree to as...

    Toyo ATII tires

I use an independent tire shop that's local to me. The TJ's tires went to a "race shop", however, for top-notch balancing, as it seems to be so critical on the TJs.

Tirecrawler.com, actually. Free shipping on Toyo tires, and they might still be having the 15% off, as well. Love that place!

    Toyo ATII tires

Tis true. I am quite the fan of these tires, and have had excellent results with them. Now admittedly, they've not seen any off road action, so it'll have to be someone else that comments on that. However, these are the tires that I purchased to go on my project TJ, as well, so they'll...

    Louvered hood fun

LOL I can't take credit for coining the phrase "Pacific North Wet". I stole that line from @ac_, as I thought it was just so perfect. But thanks for that! :)

    Louvered hood fun

I do believe that the only people who worry about the rain-soaked engine "issue" from louvered hoods are those who do not actually live in rainy areas. Living in the Pacific North Wet and having had louvered hoods in the past, I can honestly say that I've never encountered a problem. In fact...

'98 Sahara build: "Staying the Course"

That's awesome, LR. My missus thought the whole thing was pretty cool of you and your wife. I'd have to agree. :)
