Thoughts on installing a Savvy mid-arm on my 04 LJ with 35s

Thank you for the details on your rig. Wasn't aware of the mid arm history. That's a really nice jeep. It's rare around here to see savvy equipped jeeps around here. I'd be very interested in seeing a jeep like yours on trail. I'm sure I'll reach out as the build progresses.

    Hi from North Dakota

Welcome and nice new jeep, hopefully. Been through Bismarck twice while driving from NJ to Seattle. Stayed in a motel called the lone steer, which was certainly unique.

TJ vs LJ: a few thoughts

Thanks for the detailed reply. I am beginning to see just how much planning and effort go into making it look like nothing was done. I'd love to see Blaine built TJ-6 in action next to a Blaine built 35 tire TJ/LJ even if just to see the different abilities of each. Thanks again.

    JK or TJ?

Why did you only quote part of what I said? .... in the same vehicle changes it quite a bit.

TJ vs LJ: a few thoughts

Nice find. Please forgive my inexperience, but in looking at both pics, it appears you raised the body mounts negating the need for body lift? If so, makes sense to me. I imagine, due to inherent frame flex, that adding a body mount not only strengthens the whole assembly, it lessens frames...

    JK or TJ?

Have no reason or real way to compare them in the same vehicle where I have done just that in a JK. Same reason I, personally, wouldn't buy a 4 banger TJ when the 4.0 was available.

TJ vs LJ: a few thoughts

Perhaps it's just some people copying what you've developed and understand while they are just following a trodden trail. You then offer a furtherance of the knowledge and get questioned because change is scary and bad. Had no idea the tailgate played such a crucial role in structure, I just...

    JK or TJ?

I disagree, the 3.8 and 4 spd auto and interior are certainly less desirable than the '12 and up. I've driven both and it's night and day from 3.8 4 spd to 3.6 and 5 speed.

    JK or TJ?

I have both. 04 LJ and 17 JKUR. For me, around town is just that and it's a short trip so either one. For day to day commute and other associated chores the JK both hands down flat on the floor. What's the usage ratio going to be? The TJ is very simple to diagnose and repair yourself and can be...

    Questions about axles

I have looked into this a few times and came to the same conclusion. It's just not worth the cost/complexity when weighed against the benefits. The amount of fabrication to make the steering and track bar work properly is no small task. Yes, the additional width makes outboarding or coil overs...

Thoughts on installing a Savvy mid-arm on my 04 LJ with 35s

I recall a build thread on here from a while back, think it was an impact orange LJ that used your front mount cooler. I didn't know there could be a temp difference as great as 100 degrees. I don't know the cost of yours but if it prolonged the 42's life, I think it's worth it. I'm intrigued...

Thoughts on installing a Savvy mid-arm on my 04 LJ with 35s

Good advice, thanks again. It occurred to me how most trans coolers I have seen are part of the radiatior stack, so I think I get what you're saying. As I stated, I lack experience in the tj world as my 35 tire jk is a bolt on party that just flat out works. I intended to use the LJ as a...

Thoughts on installing a Savvy mid-arm on my 04 LJ with 35s

Of course, thank you. 04 LJ automatic totally stock. Plan so far is to run 35's with a savvy midarm and outboard the rears. Run arb lockers with 5.38s at both ends. Upgrade to currie hp44 up front and upgrade existing rear 44. Use currie steering system, bmb brakes along with savvy tummy tuck...

Thoughts on installing a Savvy mid-arm on my 04 LJ with 35s

I have thought about that and haven't ruled it out. I'd buy a built hp30 for the right price. The cost differential is still significant given the starting cost of used hp30 and a new currie 44 housing. The rest of the costs are about the same. I know it's not necessary but for my money, I lean...
