Clunk when accelerating from a stop

I thought it might be loose but it's not. Adjustment had crossed my mind which means switching to a cable would probably be the best solution. Although the body and frame are rust free the linkage is rusted and it doesn't look like adjustment would be possible. I wanted to get some input...

Clunk when accelerating from a stop

If I hold the 4wd lever down (only slight pressure) at a stop and then step on the accelerator then there is absolutely no sound. If I accelerate from a stop without holding the lever then there are 2-3 clunks.

Clunk when accelerating from a stop

Why then would the noise completely disappear if I push down on the 4wd lever? It only takes a slight bit of pressure.

Clunk when accelerating from a stop

There are a couple of clunk type noises when I accelerate from a stop. When I push down or slightly pull up on the 4wd handle there is no noise. I figured that it was probably loose linkage. I had the skid plate off yesterday to install a larger transmission pan (with drain plug) and change...

    2006 TJ Rubicon

Never have faith in the political system! I do recognize that what they want to do and what can be done are 2 very different things. There are so many advantages to electric over gas. It just can't be accomplished on a wide scale anytime soon. It'll happen one day but that day will be long...

    2006 TJ Rubicon

Oil isn't going away anytime soon. Electric is going to be the better option for most uses once the infrastructure is in place. However, that is a very, very long way off. The electrical grid can not handle it. Plus big oil will be fighting it which will slow it down even more. These auto...

    Stroker or re-gear?

Ok so I'm making a list of parts I need to get for the Clearwater cylinder head from Rockauto.com. Cylinder head gasket set Fel-Pro HS9076PT4 Cylinder head bolts Fel-Pro ES71102 Thermostat 195 degree Stant 45359 Exhaust Manifold Bolts Fel-Pro ES75116 I believe I've got the right parts. Am I...

    Stroker or re-gear?

Edited a double post later in the day. Decided on the head replacement because I really don't know how long I'll keep this. If this was my dream jeep and I lived somewhere that had a lot of off road options I'd go with the stroker. If I keep it 10 years I'll only put about 50k miles on it and...

    Stroker or re-gear?

If I got a stroker it would be from Newsome and install by him. I’m heavily leaning toward the Clearwater head. I can get it installed at work for a good price with me supplying the parts.

    Stroker or re-gear?

Talking resale here. Just in case I decide to sell this in a couple of years how much real value would the Newsome stroker add compared to the Jasper engine? Either way I'd be selling a rust free TJ with an engine that had less than 10k miles on it. I'm not saying that I plan on selling it...

    Stroker or re-gear?

I plan on keeping it for a while but my wife insists that I won't. I kept my JK for 2.5 years and enjoyed it. I also miss having a jeep. I recently learned of a place to off road that's only about 50 minutes from here so I'm going to try it out in a couple of weeks. I had 33's on my JK but I...

    Stroker or re-gear?

I have recently purchased an automatic 2000 Sahara with 3.07 gears that has a cracked head. The engine has 160k miles on it and I don't know how long it has been run with a cracked head. It does have sludge in it although I think the worst of it has been cleaned out. Seems to run perfectly...

SOLD 2005 Wangler Unlimited Rubicon - Austin, TX

You'll need to find that person that is looking for that specific model, in that specific color, that's willing to spend $30k plus for a Jeep that's already been built exactly the way they would have built it. Is that person out there? Probably, but how do you connect with them? If you have...

    TJ or JK

Probably $15k but I’d have to sell my JK first. Would love one with that kind of mileage.

    TJ or JK

Automatic and orange with no rust. Would like low miles but that’s not a big deal since that engine can take a lot of miles.

    TJ or JK

Update: The TJ sold and I'm casually looking for an LJ but I really need to sell the JK before I buy another Jeep. Need a decent price for the JK. Good thing is that I love the JK so if it takes a long time to sell that's fine with me. The LJ I want is probably going to be hard to find.

    TJ or JK

Just ran across a very clean 2006 LJ with 93k for about $11k. Comes oh so close to what I want. It’s not an automatic and it’s yellow.

    TJ or JK

I want to thank everyone for their help. I'm new to the whole Jeep experience. A year ago I never thought I'd ever want a Jeep. Bought the JK because my son has always loved the look of a Jeep. Well he didn't like driving a stick so I had to drive it for a little while and found that I love...

    TJ or JK

I did and got an email about the TJ within about 30 minutes. They’re coming to look at it tonight. Put $6900 on the TJ. Also have the JK listed. If it sells I’ll look for a LJ auto and orange.

How to adjust the steering stops on your TJ

No wonder mine make some noise when turning all the way to the left, the stop is missing on the passenger side!
