Is it okay to remove sway bar links?

My front sway bar links were making noise on my new-to-me 2002 TJ (6 cylinder, manual tranny, 57K miles), so I had them replaced. Did not take long on the trail until one of the new ones came undone. Then I started learning about the advantages of quick disconnect sway bar links. I also noticed...

FREE Free center console for 2000 manual

This center console came from a 2000 Jeep Wrangler TJ with a manual transmission. I do not know what other years it might fit. It is free, but I was shocked to see how much shipping is: Post Office about $32.70 for the area I checked (Texas), and UPS even more, over $40 (Ohio). Possibly less if...

    WTB: 2002 TJ center console

I have one from a 2000. Don't know if it will work for you. Picture attached. You can have it for free. Only would like to get the postage cost.

    Half doors red sub-prime

I posted these on Craigslist (Colorado Springs) for $425, but for TJ Forum members $375. These are from a 1998, so have the lighter gray colored panels. They are sub-prime. They have scratches, a couple of rust spots, a broken top corner panel-attaching-screw that leaves the panel a bit loose...

Engine braking with automatic in first low?

Many thanks to Cornbread, mrblaine, and Jerry Bransford for your replies. Very helpful. Glad to know that low range first gear with an automatic transmission will provide such good engine braking. You bring up the axle gear ratio. From the post by Chris on Wrangler TJ Stock Specifications, my...

Engine braking with automatic in first low?

My question is how much engine braking can be expected with an automatic transmission in low range first gear. I have a 1998 with a four cylinder engine and manual transmission. It goes down a rocky and steep mountain road in low range first gear at about two miles per hour. This is not...

Fuel tank filler tube mod to convert 15 gallon tank to 19 gallon

Adam, my gas gauge did the same thing that you describe. I have not put mine back together yet, so I do not know if it is fixed. Possibly it is a different issue, though. But your profile says that you have a 1999 Sport 4.0. These all came with the 19-gallon tank standard. So you do not need to...

Fuel tank filler tube mod to convert 15 gallon tank to 19 gallon

Now that I have seen the inside of a stock 19-gallon tank, thanks to my wife taking a picture of it for me (posted here above), I would not cut off the vent tube of the so-called 15-gallon tank nearly flush with the inside of the tank, like pictured in my first post here. Since the vent tube in...

Fuel tank filler tube mod to convert 15 gallon tank to 19 gallon

Of all the earlier posts on this, on the Wrangler forum before this Wrangler TJ forum came into existence, and on the Jeep forum before the Wrangler forum came into existence, no one that I read reported needing any change to the dash gauge to work correctly.

Fuel tank filler tube mod to convert 15 gallon tank to 19 gallon

This explanation makes sense to me. There were quite a few posts on this modification several years ago. I did not notice any clear explanation like this one. But several different people clearly reported cutting off only the vent tube, and then getting 19 gallons of gas into their former...

Thanks, glwood, for posting this. I had not seen it before. Very interesting indeed, and very worthwhile to know about.

Fuel tank filler tube mod to convert 15 gallon tank to 19 gallon

Questions about the fuel pumps in the two tanks have also arisen. As far as I know, they are identical except for the gas gauge float mechanism that tells the gas gauge that the tank is full at something under 15 gallons or something under 19 gallons. Those who have kept their 15-gallon fuel...

Fuel tank filler tube mod to convert 15 gallon tank to 19 gallon

For the record, here are photos of the two tanks, showing that they are identical in size. The 19-gallon tank from a 1998 six-cylinder TJ, part no. 52018768AB, is the black one that we scrubbed clean. The so-called 15-gallon tank from my 1998 four-cylinder TJ, part no. 52018687AB, is the still...

Jeep Junkyard (FN Jeep in Colorado Springs)

Perhaps their hard-to-find parts are awfully expensive. I don't know. Their more common parts are average or below average in cost. Their gas tanks are $65.00, which is below average. The 4x4 shift lever I got from them was $25.00, average or below in comparison with what is listed on ebay.

Fuel tank filler tube mod to convert 15 gallon tank to 19 gallon

It turns out that I did not keep the fuel tank that I modified, after seeing some damage to the tank in two places. But this is a plus for this thread, since it allows a clear comparison between the two fuel tanks that Jeep offered on 1997-1999 Wranglers. Yesterday I went to FN Jeep in Colorado...

Fuel tank filler tube mod to convert 15 gallon tank to 19 gallon

In reply to the suggestion by Chris: "it would be awesome if you could take some pictures of what you had to do. I say that because we need a good write-up detailing how to do this, since there isn't one out there I can find, not even on YouTube!" First, here is a picture of my gas tank...

    Fuel pump electrical connector stuck

Thanks, Chris. There is nothing left of the tab that could be pushed down with a flathead screwdriver to make it release. I will try your suggestion of prying very carefully with a small flathead screwdriver.

    Fuel pump electrical connector stuck

The release lever tab on the electrical connector to the fuel pump on my 1998 has broken off. I slid the red lock clip into the unlocked position, but cannot get the electrical connector unplugged because of the broken release lever tab. Is there any way to get this connector unplugged now...

    Starter removal problem on 1998 2.5L 5-speed

After Nimbley explained the situation, I thought that it was worth one more try by hand before hooking power back up to it. So I tried again to pull it out straight, allowing for and pushing against the force of the bendix spring (or so I thought). Still no luck. I was about to give up and hook...
