What is the current heater core recommendation?

Hey guys haven't posted in awhile. Heater core is leaking AGAINo_O. I repaired my original 3 years ago and it took off leaking again yesterday, very aggrevating as this job sucks. Whats my best shot on buying a new one that will last? Definitely will not be repairing the original again.

Took my TJ off-road and broke things

I now remember why I decided to lift my Jeep and run 35's, rarely have clearance issues this way and cleaning mud out underneath is much much easier. It's quite amazing how far a stock TJ will go... til it don't. Most of our trails here are rutted up and sometimes you just simply can't stay out...

How long did fluid film last inside your frame?

It won't make the rust go away but it will keep it from spreading. Like others have said, getting the stuff out of there, drill drain holes, and keep it lubed. I personally just blend used motor oil with a bit of diesel and shoot it in there with air compressor, costs me nothing.

    Chinese Antirock

I personally have had lots of issues with China made stuff, especially their cheap "pop" metal everything is made of. When paying for an expensive American made product typically your getting better quality. The way I see it is someone has a lot of time in designing/engineering a quality part...

    Where did my coolant go?

Another thing to consider is you'll want to do the job in a warm garage if possible. The plastic on our TJ's is already old and brittle and the colder it is the more brittle it becomes. When I did mine in my unheated garage last winter I broke several tabs off of wiring harness connectors and...

Opinion on rust on prospective purchase

That frame looks to have some good life in it but will need attention to last. Avoiding driving around salt would be a good place to start followed by cleaning up some of the exterior rust and treating the inside of the frame.

Is there a such thing as A/T tires that don't chunk?

Supposedly Cooper's are fairly chunk proof. I've ran the AT3's and St Maxx's (2) sets and have never had any "chunking" issues on the many miles of gravel roads mine sees. I don't have rock crawling in my area so can't speak from that aspect.

    Tire buying time

I'm a fan of Cooper St Maxx and AT3's, have never got less than 65,000 miles out of either. Lot of Toyos out there but never tried a set.

What do you love and hate about your local wheeling spots?

Mud is what ruins our trails here also. Not that I cant get through most of it but dam it is hard to clean up after. My fear is always getting stuck in a deep water hole, that would suck.

    TJ heater core needed

If you know how to solder they can be a fairly easy fix if you still have the original copper one.

    Where did my coolant go?

If you know how to solder they can be an easy fix depending where the leak is. Plug one end of the core and apply ~20 psi compressed air while the core is under water. That's what I did to mine and had it holding 40 psi and reinstalled. Been a year now with no leaks. Even if you screw the...

33x12.5x17 load range E tire pressure

My best advice is to test around with various numbers, just make sure not to go too low and heat up the sidewalls at high speed.

33x12.5x17 load range E tire pressure

Idk if this help but I've been running 24psi in my 35x12.5r18's Cooper St Maxx and think I could prolly go lower, sidewall is still plenty stiff.

Should I stick with the 17" JK Wheels?

Personally I'd probably keep the 17's, a 33 will look even more proportional than the tires you have now and you can get any tire you want in a 17".

    Where did my coolant go?

The leak running down the control arm is the same place mine leaked when I had a bad heater core. If you lay on your back and look straight up (between battery box and engine) there is a overflow tube, if that's leaking then you chances are it's a bad heater core.

    Where did my coolant go?

Check passenger side floorboard underneath carpet to make sure the heater sore isn't leaking?

Coolant leak: is it my water pump?

My cooling system gave me endless problems over the course of 5 years (pinhole in upper rad. hose, heater core seeping coolant onto floorboard, bad radiator cap, my coolant was brown and I would see sludge on the bottom of the rad. cap everytime I checked it. Eventually I blew the top tank of my...

Coolant leak: is it my water pump?

I would probably replace if the water pump looks just as dirty/greasy as the rest of the engine. Unless you have evidence that is not the original water pump I'd say you're lucky it made it that long.
