    Backyard upgrade

Took us two solid years but my wife and I transformed our back yard and learned a lot in the process. Before, it was a mud pit with little more than a couple basketball sized patches of grass. Surrounded by crappy chain link overgrown with ivy, a rotting picket fence, and another rotting ivy...

Defrost vent on when controls set to off

04 Sport I know there's plenty of threads about this but they seem to cover a slightly different issue than mine. When my vent controls are set to off, the defrost vent continues to blow air. Everything works as it should otherwise. I'm able to switch to other vent settings (i.e. when I switch...

Dana 44 Solid Diff Cover and Gas Tank Skid?

Anyone know if a Solid Dana 44 rear diff cover have problems on a stock suspension as far as making contact with the gas tank skid? I have a chance to pick up one for cheap locally. Most I'd lift is 1" springs, otherwise I plan to stay at stock height.

    Cutting stock/plastic fender flares

Been toying with the idea of cutting them down and finally decided to go for it today. I've only finished the driver's side front but I'm actually pretty happy with how it turned out. I kept it 2" wide as best I could and tapered it in on the front. Haven't worked out what to do with the side...

    Another Winter Frame Prep Thread

I've posted about this before but I like to check in as the seasons change. The driver side of my TJ frame is smooth, clean metal. I have yet to discover any significant rust and I've been using liberal amounts of Fluid Film to keep it that way.The passenger side is another story. On the one...

Do I need a cam bolt slot on my front lower control arm axle brackets?

Realized the other day that my just installed donor axle just has plain brackets, neither side has the marked "U" for cam bolts that my old axle had. I have an 04' Sport, no lift/all stock with new stock crown LCA's, obviously not adjustable arms. When I removed the old arms, I don't believe...

    Questions on reinstalling donor axle

Finally about ready to put axle back on, about two months later than planned. I can't afford to waste any more time or have any more fuckups. Is this the best way to bolt it back on? 1) Position axle on motorcycle lift/jack under front end 2) Position springs on their respective seats (I forgot...

Anyone know anything about trade / apprenticeship programs?

I'm 32 and a teacher. For several reasons, I'm seeing less and less of a future in this career. I'm thinking about changing paths completely. I've been thinking off and on about career in a trade instead. I want a job that will always be in demand, where I can make a halfway decent salary. I'm...

    Brief axle swap questions

So without going into too much detail, I was changing my ball joints and bent the upper part of the C knuckle, where the upper BJ goes, upwards. Too many concerns about structural integrity, even if we welded on gussets, and we ultimately decided to swap the axle. I'm going to pick up a Dana 30...

Just straight water leak under Jeep, intermittent

A week after replacing the cooling system, no overheating and no leaks. The last 2 days however, I've observed the Jeep leak (as far as I can tell) just straight water underneath. I can't tell why/when it comes and goes. Today, I directly observed the stream coming down the passenger side of the...

Couple Quick Questions - Radiator Replacement

Old radiator is out (gross!) and I have a couple quick questions as set the new one back up. 1) Should I be concerned about air in the transmission cooling lines to/from the new radiator? I lost a bit of fluid when I pulled them but nothing that I can't top off with the little bit of MOPAR ATF...

Any leads on Mopar radiator deals? (Mopar 55037653AB)

Never looked for one in earnest before today. Prefer to go MOPAR for this one for sure, if I can afford it. Rock Auto has for $277 + shipping. That's the best price I've found. WERMOPAR was about the same. For an '04 Sport 4.0 w/ Auto Trans

Very quick gasket question RE: water pump replacement

Ordered what I thought was the correct felpro gasket for my water pump (2004 wrangler sport) Pulled it out as I'm about to reinstall everything and I see that it's marked 98-2000 for 4.0 (my) engine. Can I use this gasket on my pump? It looks nearly identical to the one that came with the pump...

Confirming parts list plan of attack after coolant puke

Already posted in the walkthrough thread (great video by the way) but want to confirm everything here before I start. Pulled into COSTCO and immediately noticed fluid flowing across the ground, mostly clear. Engine coolant resevoir was almost empty and leak stopped with Jeep off, started up with...

Trying to fix a stock fog light

I've got a stock fog light from my 04 Sport that does not turn on when I flip the switch. However, a light tap to the top of the housing turns it right on. It'll usually remain on for a short time and then go out again. The other light works just fine and hasn't ever had an issue. As someone...

Scary sound out of the blue (with video / audio)

Drove home late on Monday and parked, came back out Tuesday morning and got this sound after I started driving to work. It's only happening in/on the driver's side rear wheel well. At different times, it has sounded like a pebble getting kicked around, a metal on metal scraping sound, and a...

Quick transfer case fluid change questions

Changing my transfer case fluid today on my 2004 Wrangler TJ Sport (4.0 + 42RLE). I am 99% sure I have the NP231. I think I need at least 2 full quarts on hand just in case, correct? I know fill til it starts to dribble out. Remove fill plug before drain plug. EDIT: I see the listed capacity as...

    Harbor Freight Rotary Tool

Need a Dremel-like rotary grinder tool, primarily for metal. Right now, I need to grind a notch in a bolt hole to "widen" it - the hole does not line up correctly with a nutsert and adding that notch on the side will allow the bolt hole to line up/ the bolt to thread in straight up rather than...

Proactive Steps After Jeep Died Suddenly

TL;DR - my question is: what can I proactively check after my Jeep just died on me as I arrived home over lunch break? It started back up almost right away, got it in the driveway, and then I drove it back to work 30 minutes after that with no issues. Just like title says, I had just arrived...

    Overkill mods thread?

I've been looking at the Poison Spyder BFHII low profile bumper. It is basically exactly what I'm looking for in a rear bumper (light, slim and low profile, d rings with no hitch or other attachments) - bonus that it's a direct bolt-on and doesn't require additional drilling unless you opt for...
