Gear pattern check and backlash questions

Still looks a touch deep on the drive side. I would pull .003 and check again. Your findings with regards to the set up bearings should be evidence that if you use them, make sure they are new. Even minimal wear will affect the set up.

Gear pattern check and backlash questions

Pattern looks a touch deep. I'd pull the ring gear, use a large flat file and run it across the gear mating surface of the carrier and back of ring gear. Then remount and torque the ring gear. Recheck if bl is more consistent.

    Rock Auto customer service sucks

RA is huge but, sending out a "17 dollar part" over and over adds up. A "mom and pop" shop could do the same once or twice due to their low volume and not lose their shirt. People want instant gratification nowadays, yet won't drive 10 mins to a local shop to make a purchase. Regardless if RA...

Replaced suspension and still have death wobble

Caster looks good. Based on what you're saying about balancing, could be a wheel issue. But since it is much better, I'd lean toward balancing. It really has to be dead nuts on a TJ.

Can I swap my 3.07 gears into a 3.73 posi rear axle?

    If you're happy, leave it.

Can I swap my 3.07 gears into a 3.73 posi rear axle?

Just keep putting it in 4wd. Better control and better traction than 2wd with a very small limited slip unit. Even if the ls was cheap, you still need to have it set up and most likely, a new bearing set. That "reasonable" purchase price will soon become not so.

Can I swap my 3.07 gears into a 3.73 posi rear axle?

^^^^ Agree. It is just a so-so unit; you're not going off road. Save your money.

Can I swap my 3.07 gears into a 3.73 posi rear axle?

If a 44. But he said "Swap the 3.07 gears," so I assume he is talking the gears, not the carrier. Sounds like he has a 3.73 housing with limited slip and wants to put his current 3.07 into it. We'll have to see if he can clarify if he returns.

Can I swap my 3.07 gears into a 3.73 posi rear axle?

Carrier break on the 35 is 3.31 and down, 3.55 and up. The 44 is 3.73 & 3.92. It sounds like you want to put your 3.07 into the 3.73 differential. If so, not possible on the 35, possible in 44. But, it will take a full set up, you can't just flip the gears over and be good. If so, you're...

Installing LSD without having to re-setup gears

You aren't going to hacksaw the inner race. It is hardened. You'll need a cut off wheel.

Installing LSD without having to re-setup gears

I knew the Rubicon was that way, wasn't sure on the non Rubi 44. The older 44's shimmed under the bearing.

Installing LSD without having to re-setup gears

You need a bearing puller, to pull bearings of course 😁 Carrier bearings are a press fit with shims under them to set backlash. There are various side bearing pullers. I have a Yukon, there are similar ones available. You'll also need a magnetic dial indicator, dial calipers, and torque wrench.

    Dana 44 Carrier Bearings

No bl only. Make sure you get the 3.73 and down TT if you have a thick gear.

33's on a stock TJ? No problem! Well at least we know what it is like

Most recommendations originate from the belief that the person asking is looking for best possible performance, off road. If one wants a look or doesn't care about how well the Jeep will handle off road, it doesn't really matter how it's built. People get their panties in a bunch when told that...
