    Power steering blew up

The pump is grinding, squealing and clanking and the pulley is hotter than the devil's belly button to the touch. My question to the TJ wizards is: Pulley or pump itself? I'm not sure which (or both) has the bearings. Or do I have to pull it to determine what's kerplunked? The pulley (and the...

    Shifter problem?

99 TJ 4.0 5 speed. A few weeks ago I stripped out the interior and replaced a bunch of stuff, including the torn upper and lower boots on my shifter. Now it pops out of second if I don't hold it down. Yes, the new boots are stiff but I'm think my old shifter might just be worn out and I'm hoping...

Observation On The Silliness Of Corporate America

I've had both the experiences in returns, I think the difference in my case was one purchase was through Amazon Prime and the other was a private seller. On the one hand, Amazon spooks me because they are the behemoth and getting bigger all the time, but the reasons for that are obvious when...

Observation On The Silliness Of Corporate America

I'm shopping for exhaust stuff for Jackass (My TJ ). A big, well known parts supplier has a kit I want. Amazon has the same kit for $50 bucks less. When you copy the part number from from the BIG suppliers page, a little window opens with "LOWEST PRICE GUARANTEE- CLICK FOR DETAILS" . I click...

Hagerty Article: TJ is the best Jeep ever

EEEEK! Wow. I've had a lot of old cars insured thru them (including 8k on my current 75 Wagoneer project) and I never paid more than $300 for a year! But that's as a part time/ car show/ cruise around town rate.

I never heard that either until I started digging around in the Wagoneer/ J trucks/ Cherokee FJ/FSJ stuff. It's definitely a different world from the TJs. Weirder.

Agreed. I wouldn't have believed it but I saw some evidence and I had a friend whose old truck fell victim to the cow curse too! The quarter windows are replaced w Ebay specials ($200 for the windows, rubber AND shipping) and the back passenger door glass arrived Thursday.

The prices are all over. I picked this one up for $1000. I'll probably have less than 2 in it to get it running and stopping. Since they were essentially the same body style for 30 years, the parts are available and pretty cheap. Just about any engine swap is possible and fairly inexpensive...

Not yet. It sat in a TN barn for a long time. ( Cows broke out some of the windows, not kidding) So at the moment I'm replacing the glass, carb, fuel tank and brakes. Once it's running and the weather cooperates it will get a big scrub down, detailing and the floors need work The first big-ish...

Is it just me? Trying to hire quality repairs and needing to vent a little

It's everywhere. I think it's a general erosion of the once great American work ethic. For decades I've done everything myself, along with a friend who passed away suddenly recently. Now I've been to 3 local mechanics lately and none of them did anything. A guy right across the street...
