    If it's a problem just wrap a rag or small piece of rubber(like bike innertube thickness) around nut and use a pair of vice grips on it. Don't need to be cranked down super tight whereas they would crack the paint, if nuts aren't rusted on they should loosen pretty easily where you can finish...

    Looks like he didn't know when enough is enough when he was tightening those tank straps. Wonder if he thought it was gonna fly out of that pretty much enclosed hole it sits in once the skid is mounted up to the frame ? Hell, you will probably gain a couple extra gallons on fill up now. :D

    Putting any good protectant is gonna be about the best you can do. I mean most of the ones you see that are all grey have probably been in sun with nothing on them for 20yrs. Even still, only way to stop plastic from fading to to UV rays I would say is to be keep it clean and in the dark. Or...
