    42RLE: local rebuild or no?

I decided to have them rebuild it locally. Interestingly, the rebuilt transmission failed dramatically just before the warranty ran out (18mos). One day it just stopped going into gear. I had it towed to the shop. They said the planetary gear was broken, and wanted to know what I did to it, lol...

New double DIN head unit and front and rear cameras

+1 I have read different things about the backup camera being in the tire vs. down low in terms of guide accuracy. I was thinking about mounting to a hitch cover, since I don't tow anything.

New double DIN head unit and front and rear cameras

Thank you so much for this write-up. Could we get a picture of how you ran your wires?

What is the OPDA and do I need to change mine?

Do we have any data about whether these Crown models also wear out? I just replaced mine, but if I'm wondering if I should buy another spare while they are available.

    Rear view Camera install 2002

Do Do you have a picture of the camera installed in the hitch cover? Did you use one of the little round ones that drill a hole for?

What did you do to your TJ today?

I needed to swap it out for the Crown anyway, so I'll put it in the win column for today.

What did you do to your TJ today?

This weekend, I got a P0016 CEL, meaning the cam position sensor is out of sync with the crankshaft position sensor. That sounded like the OPDA to me, and luckily I had a new Crown replacement ready to put in. When I started to remove the old one, I realized immediately that the bolt holding it...

Repair or replace cold air intake

My Jeep came with one of these cold air intake systems (2005 LJ). I believe the stock airbox was eliminated for space reasons because it has a Highline modification. As you can see, the connection between the intake tube and the crankcase vent tube has been repaired with silicone of some type...

    Questions about replacing fuel pump

Oh, I meant to say, I also took the opportunity to file down the ridges on the fuel tank's inlet check valve, which is supposed to stop the gas from shooting out when the tank is full. Fingers crossed on that one.

    Questions about replacing fuel pump

Update: I bought a tester and rigged it up to the fuel rail, and as expected, 0 pressure. So, I dropped the fuel tank and replaced the pump with a Bosch. (I also replaced the diff oil and gasket while I was back there.) I managed to get it back up, hook everything in, and voilà!, it works. I...

    Questions about replacing fuel pump

Thanks so much for your help. What about the fact that it ran for two seconds with starter fluid through the throttle body? Does that mean I have spark, or maybe not?

    Questions about replacing fuel pump

I should say, I had the transmission rebuilt last fall and it's been running like a top since then. I would be surprised to hear that it was overheating. I definitely haven't seen any signs of it, and I haven't been doing any hard wheeling or trailer pulling, etc. I'm still learning about all...

    Questions about replacing fuel pump

Thanks for that nudge. I'll do some research in that direction. I guess I should also just go ahead and do a pressure test before I fool with the pump, if it comes to that.

    Questions about replacing fuel pump

Yes, I can hear it. It's loud enough that you can hear it even from the engine bay.

    Questions about replacing fuel pump

I did put starter fluid into the throttle body, and it fired for a second. I interpreted that to mean that it must be the fuel pump. Is that not correct?

    Questions about replacing fuel pump

My LJ refused to start in the Lowe's parking lot. It will crank at a normal level but will not start. I had it towed home, and here it sits. Background. I have read all of the threads I can find about "crank won't start," and I believe that my problem is the fuel pump. 1) There are no relevant...

What did you do to your TJ today?

I was almost finished with my carpet install when I had to stop for the day. The center console and front seats are in, and I just need to cut attachment spots for the rear bench seat and seat belts, and get the bench installed. I was lucky that my brother-in-law visited for the day, and the...

What did you do to your TJ today?

I had a couple of areas with surface rust under the old carpet and lots of general greasy yuckiness. So I pulled everything out for a good cleaning, knocked down the rust (bonus: new angle grinder), and covered those spots with Rust Reformer. Tomorrow I’m going to grease up the front seat...

What did you do to your TJ today?

Something north of 100K. To be honest I don't know exactly how many miles this Jeep has. A PO had put on 35s without upgrading the speedometer gear, so the 101K that's on there is low. Maybe 110K? I put in the correct gear when I got it in May at 94K on the odometer. Strangely, the shop told me...

What did you do to your TJ today?

I picked up the LJ with a shiny new rebuilt transmission. I knew it needed work but didn't realize how rough it had gotten; now my shifts are smooth as butter and drive-line vibrations are gone.
