Have you ever experienced a bad oil pump?

Regarding the compression test, does the crank case need to be filled with oil? I haven't refilled it since draining it and inspecting the filter.

As mentioned, I did strain the oil and diasect the oil filter, and I did not see the metal that I expected to see if the bearings were toast.

What should the compression be?

Jerry , I finally found the time to purchase the parts that you suggested to cure the early morning shifting issues. The trans lines are stainless tubing up to a point, then transition to rubber; did you completely replace the rubber section, or just add in the check valve and hose barb?

I can't wait to try the check valve. Again, I realize that the oil pressure is proportional to the rpm, and with small block chevys, the rule of thumb was 10 psi per 1000 rpm, does this hold true for the 4.0?
