Old 4x4 ads selling Jeep TJs to rest of world markets

Much as I love my TJ the first 4x4 that I owned and really wish I had kept was a Range Rover "classic" 3.5 V8 manual, no electric windows, air con or other unnecessary luxuries. Here's 3 adverts selling the RR to "Rest of World" All non PC today and therefore EXCELLENT. Anyone got any Jeep...

Is there an easy way to line up the wheel studs with the wheels?

To most of you this will seem a dumb question, however some of the more mature members of the forum will understand. Just taken the TJ off the road for the winter. Removed the wheels to thoroughly clean the chassis. I'm well past the first flush of youth - in fact knackered and repaired and...

Is mixing shock absorbers (brand 1 front, brand 2 rear) a good idea?

My original shock absorbers have done 80,000 miles and are 19 years old. A rebound test on all 4 corners has the Wrangler bouncing 2-3 times instead of once. I ordered a set of 4 Rancho 5000X shocks for my box stock (unlifted) 2002 4.0 auto from Amazon U.S.A. - they were around $100 each...

How do I clear a fault code in the on-board diagnostics?

Recently had a P0320 code which I found using the on-board diagnostics. Replaced the Crank Position Sensor and all is well. After around 20 "Start drive cycles" (Land Rover English, maybe a different term in Jeep English) the fault still shows. How do I clear it? Thanks in advance.

Fault code P0320 (How can I test crankshaft position sensor?)

Laid the Wrangler (2002 I6 auto) up for the winter, battery disconnected. 5 months later re- connected battery and started as usual. Left it for 2 weeks and the battery was flat, jump start failed. Fitted new battery, it now cranks well but won't start. Used the built in diagnostics pulled...

    Starting TJ after winter lay-up

In the past when I have started a vehicle after a long period being "laid up" I've removed the coil - distributor H.T. lead so that I can crank the engine, get the oil flowing and the pressure up, check for leaks/unusual noises without the engine starting. So how do I do that with a 4.0 2001...

Need information on making my own brake lines and fittings

It's time to change the brake lines on my RHD 2001 non ABS, drum rear braked, export model TJ. Best way forward is to have the lines made up here in the U.K. Usual deal is that I supply the parts. So the question is what size lines and which thread form for the fittings? Roughly how much lines...

Best U.S. source of genuine TJ Mopar parts?

2002 TJ 4.0 auto - Sahara export model Having read a lot of threads/posts on this forum I've decided to replace my original water pump with a genuine Mopar unit. I've searched the internet I cannot find a genuine item in the U.K. so importing one from the U.S. seems the best (though most...

Is it time to change the accessory belt and tensioner?

My 2001 4.0 came with a Dayco drive/fan belt which is in good condition visually - no cracks or side damage. Bearing in mind that I can't find a genuine tensioner over here in the U.K. (it's a Dayco belt) and the TJ has now done 85,000 miles, I don't know when the belt was last changed and the...

Winter storage—leave automatic transmission shifter in P or N?

Just taken the Jeep off the road for the winter to avoid road salt. It's an I6 with the 3 speed auto. I always leave manual gearboxes in neutral when in storage. Should I leave the auto in P or N? Or am I just overthinking it and it doesn't matter. Thanks.

    1999 and up rotor question

From my searches in this forum front rotors changed in 1999. Some U.K. suppliers list all front rotors for TJ's with the same part numbers, I've ordered these and they don't fit my TJ manufactured in 2001. So I've sourced some rotors that claim to fit 1999 on TJ's. Here's a pic. Will they...

    32RH safe wading depth

So I asked how to waterproof the electrics in my Jeep looking forward to some deep wading, up to the headlights anyway. A nice straight answer told me that the weak point for wading is the 32RH transmission breather situated inside the bell housing above the input shaft. Water + auto...

Need to prepare for fording, any engine / electrics waterproofing tips?

From time to time I do a bit of the above, usually in the RAI equipped Land Rover, and often up to the headlights, steady speed, correct gear, bow wave etc. This year I'm going to use the TJ. Any tips much appreciated 😎

    Wheeling U.K. lockdown style

A little background - I live in Wales, just by an accident of history/geography, 1 mile inside the bogus modern political boundry. Far more importantly I live on the English side of Offa's Dyke (not what you are thinking :D Google it). Wales has a devolved - call it red - government. U.K...

What does this do? Is there a piece missing?

2002 4.0l Sahara export model not modified. I even managed to put a red ring around it :) The questions are what is this for? Is there a top bit missing? I'm guessing cooling system related. Thanks

How do I get an export model build sheet?

Thanks to you chaps I discovered that my 2001 built, 2002 registered, U.K. export spec. Sahara has a Dana 44 rear axle. Now I've had a proper look at the front axle and I think it's a Dana 30 but I'm not sure. It does make me wonder exactly how the original owner specified this TJ. Of course I...

    I think it's a Dana 35 but hope it's a Dana 44

I've searched on here and scoured the internet, but I still can't decide if the rear diff is Dana 35 or Dana 44. I'm about to order gaskets for an oil change and want to be sure I get the right ones as I'm not keen on using liquid gasket. I suspect that it's a Dana 35 but I would appreciate confirmation...

Opinions on Crown Automotive service parts please

Over here in the U.K. it is easier to find Crown Automotive service parts for my 2002 4.0 Auto. I'm looking for air and oil filters and know from experience that some after market parts brands are best avoided. So simple question - are Crown Automotive parts crap or excellent. Thanks in...

    Door strap hook bent

A picture paints a thousand words I'll bend it back (like the dealer did) but the metal will be weakened and I don't want a dented wing (is that Fender?). Is there a way to strengthen this hook/a stronger aftermarket part? Thanks for your help.
