Distributor Pickup Coil (Cam position sensor) signal voltage?

To make a long story short, (or sorta long to ask one quick question) My 1999 TJ 4.0 died on me in the woods the other day. Crank, but no start at times it sounded like it was about to try to. At first I thought it was a water issue, but I couldn't get it dried out on the trail towed it out and...

Shorten a winch rope, chain sinnet?

This morning I had to move some blown down trees and I needed to shorten my winch rope extension. I haven't been in a situation where I needed to shorten a rope when winching my Jeep, but I use a couple of winches for other utilitarian not fun purposes too and had the need a couple of times in...

    Montstaliner issues, other than ugliness?

I'm honestly not trying to beat a dead horse here, but I'd like some facts on bedliner paint jobs. I know total bedliner paintjobs are hated by many. But I'm still considering it. My Jeep needs some body work and is solid brush scratches from bumper to bumper. Brush is the reason I don't want...

Seized / galled skid plate bolt

It will if the bolt is rusted into the rivnut, and it is. The expansion and contraction can help break that bond loose. Heat and pry down like P Man said. But like you say, cutting it off may vary well end up being the final solution.

    Re-gearing my Dana 35 to 4.56 from 3.07

That sounds like enough force to me, but I'm no expert either. I'm thinking having no pinion preload is screwing with you? Use your old crush sleeve and shim it to get setup preload if you aren't confident about your pinion shims yet. But I think your pinion is climbing the ring with no...

    Re-gearing my Dana 35 to 4.56 from 3.07

Are you loading the ring gear with some pressure when you are rotating to check your pattern? Spin the pinion with a drill and hold a rag on the edge of ring so that it's not freewheeling?

Please Learn From My Lack of Proper Insurance Coverage (Please Read)

I don't have anywhere near the modification the OP has, but a little here and a little there over years and years of owning my Jeep. My cost to replace has gone up, and my book value has gone down, and I never even gave it a god damn thought, until this thread! "I've got full coverage" Thanks...

Why did my brain quit working to solve the most basic of things?

Will .693" fit in your counterbore? I knew I ordered something similar a while back, I checked and here are the ones I used. I don't know if you have a Fastenal store in your area. https://www.fastenal.com/product/details/0149236 Their prices are different if you login or have an account with...

    Low compression in one cylinder

They are within 10% of each other, that's generally considered to be within tolerance, and it will not cause your miss.

    You must work on Hysters.

Ya had one little job, WTF?

I always assumed the aftermarket was manufacturing off of SEMA CAD files now. Are they really just tearing apart a Jeep and going after it with a tape measure and a carpenter's square? That has no bearing on whether they actually give a fuck or not, but I was just curious about industry...

Ya had one little job, WTF?

I don't wanna tell you how to do your job.............. but it would've been way more efficient to just cut and bend the square.

Door hinge questions and recommendations please (only stripped one bolt)

They are damn hard, I'm not even sure a cobalt drill will drill into them. A burr on a die grinder works to cut the heads off though/

Door hinge questions and recommendations please (only stripped one bolt)

I used an extra sacrificial torx bit that I stuck in the bolt and then heated the long torx bit with a torch. My thought was to get the heat to migrate to the bolt without burning my paint off the hinges. If I remember correctly some of the body side hinge bolts can be accessed from inside...

Metal cutting tools: what's really the best option?

To me anymore the only thing I'd us an abrasive saw for anymore is if I had to cut something like hardened drill rod or something I couldn't cut with a dry cut blade or a band saw. I had my 4"X"6 for probably 30 years. The day the worm gear went out and I threw it away was a wonderful day! I...

Metal cutting tools: what's really the best option?

Some of my most used: femi hem bandsaw Milwaukee 8" metal circular saw A pile of hole saws A victor and detroit oxy acetylene torches Cubitron flap discs Milwaukee Sawz-all Every time I buy 4" cut off or grinding is a different brand and I haven't liked any of them all that much yet. I have a...

    Lifter tick or cracked manifold?

It's a TJ, you have a cracked manifold AND a lifter tick....LOL To check the manifold, with it running and outside, pull the vacuum line off the brake booster and shove it into a can of Sea-Foam it'll smoke like hell, but watch the manifold and if it's cracked you'll see the smoke coming out of...

Proper hole cutting for mounting body armor nutserts

That's a good idea, and I always have the big 8 OZ or whatever size bottles they are around. Actually, I'll skip the 272 on my bolts, but the outside of the rivenuts I'll try it.
