    Fog light wiring

'03 Sport. Got a front bumper with integrated LED lights. Not really fog lights, but my plan is to connect them to the fog light wiring. Wires running to the factory fogs are blue and black. New bumper has two LEDs on each side. My plan is to wire them in series and connect to the the...

    Let's talk code readers

I have the BAFX thing for standard OBD2 stuff. Works fine, but I'm looking for a reasonably priced reader that also gets all the manufacturer specific stuff. Like airbag codes, basically something that can read anything the car's ECU is reporting. Live sensor data would be nice too, but I...

Just when you think things are going ok...

Background. Covid craziness basically screwed me out of a 15 year career in food service. I worked in a bakery for a while, liked it, then went to Culinary school. Got a degree (yeah, it's a real thing, lol) in baking and pastry arts. Worked for some crappy places, and finally clawed my way...

Fumoto oil drain valve doesn't fit my 2003 4.0

I got the Fumoto F101S which says it has 1/2-20 UNF threads. This was what their website said I should get for a 2003 4.0. Yeah, well it doesn't fit mine. Way too small, doesn't even touch the threads. So did Fumoto give me bad info? Or should that be the right one? In which case I guess...

2008 Grand Cherokee A/C service port question

This is for a 2008 Grand Cherokee, 3.7 V6. AC system was leaking a bit last year, this year it's empty. So I got one of those high/low valve kits. The low side was easy, it had the standard valve. Then I searched around for the high side, found it at the top of a cylinder mounted next to...

    A few questions about re-gearing for 33s

I've got a '03 Sport, Dana 30 front, 35 rear. Going to 33's, I've decided to stick with the stock wheels, Ravines, and get 33x10.5, probably KO2s. I'm not going to be doing anything crazy in terms of rock crawling, deep mud, stuff like that. This is mostly just for fun and the occasional...

    Front tire, outside edge wear

Just on the passenger front. The edge of the tread is getting rounded off. Driver side is ok, although perhaps a hint of the same thing. Not much, only because I was really looking. Too much toe in? I would think that would affect both equally.

Steve Vai fans? Check this out.

Lots of good guitarists out there. And then there's Vai.

    Any mortgage experts here?

Refinancing my house and something seems fishy, but I don't know enough about the math behind these things to say for sure. I'll try and condense the story as much as possible. Initial value was estimated at $135,000. Loan was $100,000 to stay just under 75% LTV. There was like 1.5 points...

Is there a difference between clearing codes and disconnecting the battery?

Got a CEL, O2 sensor code, so I have both upstream sensors ordered. Which reminded me of this question. I have a OBD2 reader that can clear codes, but does that accomplish the same thing as cutting power and wiping memory? I figure with replacing those sensors I probably want to do the...

Do you still have / enjoy any childhood toys?

My mom visited for Thanksgiving and brought a bunch of my stuff she found in a closet. Including one of my favorite toys, a Lego castle from 1984. It was mostly complete and today I stopped by a local Lego store that amazingly had all the missing pieces I needed. In brand new, unopened...

Opinions on Dick Cepek DC-2 wheels?

Considering these, and I was told by a local distributor that they were discontinuing the 15x8 with the TJ bolt pattern. Don't see anything on Cepek's site about that so I don't know. In any case, are they well regarded? I know @JMT runs them. I like the looks, not too blingy but still a...

Are K02's still the go to tire?

For mixed driving that is. Mostly on road, my off road stuff will be fairly mild. Trying to decide between 33x12.5 and 33x10.5. I like the looks of a wide tire on a Wrangler, but that's really the only reason I can think of to go 12.5. I have ravine wheels, so the 10.5 should be fine...

Wiring backup camera to reverse light

Putting in a dash cam. The rear camera that came with it is not for external use, has to be inside. So I ended up zip tying it to the center of the middle bar, and hiding the wires inside the sport bar wrapping. Normally for reverse sensing I'd just tap into the tail light, but the wiring is...

Dealing with insurance is so fun

Got rear ended, in my wife's '08 GC. Sent pics and an estimate from the shop I use to the other driver's insurance. Estimate was $2850. Replacing rear bumper and the underlying structure. Their offer? $575. Their estimate included instructions to refinish existing bumper, nothing else...

Very glad I didn't drive my TJ today (got rear ended)

Almost took the TJ, but it looked like rain and my other Jeep (2008 Grand Cherokee) is better in rain. Driving home it was indeed raining, traffic in front of me was slowing to a stop for a car trying to turn left. I was almost stopped and *bam*, car behind me that was paying zero attention...

Mechanics, engine running rich (2008 GC)

My wife's Jeep, an 2008 GC Laredo, with the 3.7 V6. Full history to follow, it's a little weird. Couple months ago, drove into town did some shopping. Came back out, didn't want to start. Crank, yes, start, no. Fired up after a few tries. Since then every once in a while would feel like...

    Fair price for re-gear?

Have a 2003 Sport, going to 33" tires soon. Diffs are the standard Dana 35 I think, whatever the base model was for that year. I want to go 4.88, with e-locker at least on the rear, maybe the front too. And get the upgraded stuff as well, I think it's called the super 35? So yeah, I was...

    Questions about O2 sensor replacement

I see the recommended parts to get are NGK or NTK. The cheapest I could find on those comes out to about $96 for all four (4.0 engine), from Rockauto. It's the NTK brand there, each one in the $22 - $24 range. On Amazon they have NGK stuff, same part numbers, for about $33 a piece. I want...

PSA, if you have Hulu, check your account frequently

Few months back they tried adding Disney+ and ESPN to my account. I noticed and took it off before they could bill me. And now they did it again with HBO Max. The way this is supposed to work is you go to the channel within Hulu, try to watch something and they tell you it's an additional...
