    Sudden onset death wobble

So the other day I was taking my TJ to the car wash. As I hit 45 mph, the steering wheel started shaking and I’m all over the road. Immediately turned around and went back home. Did some checking and found that the steering gearbox had one broken bolt and the other 2 were loose. The broken...

High mileage oil and RMS leak

Hello all, My TJ had a slight rear main seal leak. I took the advice from others here on the forums and tried a high mileage oil. I used Valvoline High Mileage synthetic blend as I couldn’t find a non-synthetic oil. After the first wheeling trip, just one small drip on the garage floor. Now...

    SxS morons

Zoom in on the photos and look around. Tracks where they are not supposed to be brought to you by our friends in the side by side community. This is just off of forest road 2414 in the Beartooth mountains. I have encountered packs of side by sides in my off road adventures over the years...

    Lower control arm identification

I too have an unidentified lower. They’re steel and have grease fittings. Can’t find them anywhere on the inter web.

Does a cold air intake add power on a 4.0?

Oh,and still remaining neutral here; cooler air is denser, so more will fit into a given volume. There is that to consider.

Does a cold air intake add power on a 4.0?

I think I’ll wade on in. I ran a dyno at a Caterpillar dealer for a while back in the 80’s. The dyno indicated horsepower was required to to be within 10% of engine nameplate HP before release to the customer. 10% is a lot. To be fair, some of that is from deviations other than the dyno. Now this...

Rear seat belts with car seats

I think the rear seat is designed to accommodate only two passengers. I personally would not add a third seat belt.

    This is tempting

It looks like a total hack job. I can’t imagine what the wiring looks like. I’d maybe go 8K if it’s not rusted to shit and I was drunk

Safe RPM for longer (150 mile), freeway trips

Back to the original premise of this thread. The majority of engine wear occurs at cold start up.

Safe RPM for longer (150 mile), freeway trips

Yeah it’s insane psi. We’re on care and maintenance at the job site right now so it usually only runs around 350 kw. I put it on the load bank every couple of days to give it some exercise.

Safe RPM for longer (150 mile), freeway trips

1.5 MW V-16 Cummins currently making 1040KW Note rpm lower right and those are actual engine hours. Oh and it’s burning 75 gallons/hour

03 TJ dashboard light with a key inside a circle

Wow. That seems a bit pricey. Even for a no rust garaged Jeep. Not trying to be a dick, but you should keep looking.

    Rear disc brake conversion question(s)

I’ve been looking into a rear disc conversion. I’m willing to wait for something from BMB.

    Can't locate antifreeze smell

It could very well be that the odor is issuing from the recovery tank. Check the plastic cap for damage I don’t recall if there is a seal or gasket also. Check and/or replace the radiator cap, clean the sealing surface in the rad filler neck.

Can someone recommend a quality locking gas cap

A small diameter plastic hose will. But it takes forever to drain the tank. I did this to drain mine for repair. However a thief is not going to wait. Hence the drilling/ hose cutting. Short of storing in an alarmed garage, it’s near impossible to stop a determined gas stealing scumbag.

When eBay and the USPS conspire against you and the seller is clueless.

When I lived in Alaska (AK) sometimes my stuff ended up in Arkansas (AR) or Alabama (AL).

How long have you waited for your engine rebuild?

My last rebuild took 3 months in an uninsulated, unheated shop in the winter of 2017. I had to build a little room out of canvas tarps and use a space heater. The hardest part was simply getting out there to do it. Now that my shop is insulated and heated the next rebuild should be faster.

    Totaled!

The crossmember probably took the brunt of it. If there’s no buckling of the frame, I’ll bet the frame springs back when the bent xmember is released.

Coolant temp gauge starting to hunt around during cold weather

I don’t think a thermostat would cause your issue. They usually fail stuck open or closed. Maybe the viscous fan drive is nearing its demise?
