Sometimes you east coast guys have it easy

I like to think it makes us better weldors. Not better than anyone else but better than we would be if we didn't have rust to deal with. ;)

    Solar eclipse craziness

I camped for a few nights centred on the eclipse and "THE FIX" worked great. I was the only on in the campground ... which was probably a good thing. 🌞

What did you do to your other vehicle today?

Funny that you would pick that clip. Jim Carey is also from Newmarket.

What did you do to your other vehicle today?

I had the windshield of my 89 XJ removed last week so I could clean up the frame and deal with some small rust issues. I didn't pick the best time of year but it had to be done. I'll be driving it back to the glass shop today for a new windshield. It will be a bit chilly ... and windy...

    Is this wheeling?

Wheeling with a purpose. (y) I spent 40 years in town planning and land development; now retired. For over half of it I managed anywhere from 5 to 7,500 ac. of land, a lot of it vacant. Early on my company vehicle was a Jeep XJ and I got to (had to but loved it) "explore" farms, valleys...

    Front fender rust ideas

I figured they might be for rigidity but I hadn't heard about sound suppression. On both counts, I haven't noticed any difference at all. Kind of funny if those were their priorities over RUST! :giggle:

Work Bench & Garage Version 2

An easy way to make a bench is with some scrap pieces of pallet rack. My main bench frame is 7' long and has a 1/8" x 10' steel top over 2" x 10" lumber on it on it. It's very stable and strong. It took about 20 minutes to assemble and it would be easy to move if I wanted to.

    Front fender rust ideas

I've posted this before and I think it's worth doing again now that it's been about 3 yrs. since I did it. I replaced my front fenders with factory style originals. The previous ones had rotted through in usual spots ... the horizontal flat areas on top. I could clearly see that the new...

    Solar eclipse craziness

I have a 2 night camping trip planned around 4 minutes of day time darkness. I'm going solo. My wife decided to wait until the next one in 2079. I'll be 127 yrs old then and probably not up for it! ☀️😎

Getting the frame sandblasted—how far to take the disassembly?

If you decide to go ahead with a frame up restoration don't under estimate how much space a vehicle takes up when it is in pieces. I've had 2 or 3 cars (not Jeeps) apart at once for restoration and storage and organization can get a bit overwhelming. Even 1 can! Good luck with it! (y)

Me too. I'm also not a fan of the night races.

    Official Formula 1 thread

I agree with this but with regard to existing tracks, it's no longer about the tracks but sadly the hotels, restaurants, event space, transit, etc. I feel lucky to have attended F1 races at Watkins Glen, Mosport and St. Jovite in the late 60s and 70s. All were great tracks for their day and...

Good to see most of the teams have got their porpoising under control. Personally, I think it was a bit of an over reaction. 😊

    Flag Mount

<<< - I made a small "L" bracket and attach it with a single bolt to a spare wheel accessory mount. It takes a few seconds to put it on or take it off. The pole itself is an old fishing rod that I cut down.

How To Install YJ Half Doors on a TJ

I abandoned modifying the rear most pin on the TJ soft uppers but I did actually fit my TJ hard uppers to the YJ hard lowers at one point. I had to drill a hole through the uppers so I could insert a 3/8" pin down through them and into the YJ lowers. It worked fine. I later filled the...

Clearly some teams got it right in the off season and some still have some work to do. It will sure make things interesting.

What did you do to your TJ today?

I've heard of people who have had to pay thousands of dollars to replace wiring harnesses because they were soy covered. I don't know what the manufacturers were thinking and I don't believe it's still done. I've never had any damage but I once had mice build a nest in the glove box of of an...

What did you do to your TJ today?

I installed an animal repeller under the hood of my LJ. It's been sitting there loosely (in a safe spot) for a while but I finally mounted it. I used 3M body molding tape. It's hard to say how well or even if these things work but I think they do. It emits a high pitch sound that drives...

    Wish I still had the '74 CJ5

In 1974 I drove my friend to the dealership to pick up his 1974 CJ5. We made the trip in my 1969 CJ5. This pic was taken a few days later. I'm in the passenger's seat.

Rattle can or spray gun to color match half doors?

I use an inexpensive HVLP spray gun from Princess Auto (Canada's Harbor Freight). I shot single stage enamel for my LJ. It's an off the shelf colour straight from Canadian Tire, Home Depot, Walmart, etc. I figure this Jeep is going to need touching up from time to time so I wanted to keep...
